We have been awarded 4 STARS by 'Visit England' 2016/2017/2018 and the Tripadvisor 'Certificate of Excellence' 2017. We are pleased to announce that we have gained the prestigious VisitEngland Gold Award for 2018. The kitchen/dining area is open plan with oak flooring throughout. The lounge has a stone fireplace with a lovely wood burner to add to the cosy feel of the cottage. There are exposed beams, oak doors and an oak staircase. The bathroom is on the ground floor, designed as a wet room it is complete with shower as well as a bath, sink and toilet. . Patio doors open onto the fully fenced garden with numerous seating areas to enjoy the views and wildlife. There is an area for using disposable BBQs as well as an outside tap for washing down dirty boots and bikes. There is a secure shed which houses the tumble drier, extra sacks of wood and space for locking up your bikes if required. The cottage has full central heating, double glazing, led lighting and is fully insulated making it very thermally and energy efficient. Nuthatch cottage is ideal for short breaks but also fully equipped to make your longer stay more comfortable. We have wonderful views over the Flaxley valley from the Cottage and garden. Tracks and footpaths lead off literally from the gate. It is ideal for walking & cycling but if you are looking for something a little less energetic then sit back and enjoy the tranquillity of the local countryside from our numerous seating areas within our beautiful garden. The garden has a natural stone patio along with a lawn and a scattering of pots with mature plants along with a small barrel pond and wildlife area. You may catch a glimpse of the Buzzards or even a Red Kite circling high above the valley. You'll love listening to the Owls twit-twooing as night falls. Because there is very little light pollution you get a great view of the starry sky (clouds permitting). The Forest of Dean is beautiful whatever the time of year, its full of things to do and places to explore. We have free Wifi although this is limited and probably somewhat slower than you are used to due to our location. There is a selection of DVDs, books and games to keep everyone occupied. We have lovingly restored Nuthatch Cottage to be as warm and cosy as possible whilst maintaining its original cottage character. We were able to incorporate bat and bird boxes into the external stonework and encourage as much wildlife into the garden as possible. The property is accessed down a rural sometimes bumpy lane. There is off road parking for 2 cars. A short pedestrian path with steps leads down to the cottage from the parking spaces via a set of steps which are well lit at night. We welcome up to 2 dogs with well behaved owners and there is a small charge of £10 per pet per stay, this is used for extra cleaning and not a stealth tax. House rules are that pets are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs and a stairgate is provided to assist you with this. We provide towels and throws specifically for your pet's use. A welcome pack comprising of milk, biscuits, teas, coffees and a small basket of logs are included in the price along with all linen and towels. Extra nets of logs for the woodburner are available at a small charge. More

About the neighbourhood
The forest of Dean is a beautiful place to visit whatever the season. The Forest of Dean lies between the Mighty Severn Estuary and the Beautiful Wye Valley (AONB). The Forest of Dean is one of England's surviving ancient woodlands and measures approximately 110 square kilometres, there are many beautiful walks, cycle tracks and interesting places to see and things to do. Go Ape, Puzzle Wood, Beechenhurst, Mallards Pike, Canoeing on the River Wye or maybe the 700 metre Zip Wire at the National diving & activity centre near Chepstow. A short drive takes you to the Wye Valley with its market towns of Monmouth, Chepstow or Tintern Abbey which lies at the mid point between the two towns along the Wye Valley.
Getting around
A car is essential to get around as we live in the middle of the country. There is a surprisingly good, frequent bus service that serves the Forest of Dean and beyond.
