Holiday Rental House -
6 Bedrooms , 7 Bathrooms , Sleeps 14
Roullens, Carcassonne, Aude, Occitanie
Les Hauts de Gaubil is a wonderfully private and small estate only 15/20 minutes from the centre of Carcassonne and the Airport. It is also a luxurious haven of peace and tranquility. With a huge heated pool and tennis court, our guests through experience, often prefer to stay here with the captivating views rather than venture out.

This very private property exudes tranquility and from the house there is one of the greatest panoramic views in the entire region, a view which is quite impossible to capture in one photograph alone. You can see unhampered 60 miles to the South and to the South West looking over 7 valleys to the tops of the mountains of the Pyrenees.

Les Hauts de Gaubil is actually two houses conjoined which is set in 11 hectares (27 acres) of its own land. The house was originally built with families and parties in mind a...

Interaction with guests
You will be met at the house and given a full tour of the house and property unless you arrive after 6pm or a time that has been prearranged with us.You will be given a full set of keys for the two houses. I like to speak in the months before you arrive to help you in your planning of your holiday. We know the area very well, both the tourist areas and the often more appealing quieter and more hidden areas to visit. This said our guests come fully prepared for their holiday with many ideas of what to do but when they get here and see the views and the house we have learnt through experience that they tend to stay put. I will ring a couple of times whilst you are at the house to ensure that all is well.

About the neighbourhood
Carcassonne has twice been included in UNESCO's World Heritage List – once in 1996 for the Canal du Midi and again in 1997 for the Medieval Cité itself, which is now the most complete fortified city in Europe. The castle walls have roman origins and excavations have identified the Roman settlement. Today 52 towers dominate the double walls, which provide in all 3 kilometres of battlements. There remains no restriction on access to this area and It is still home today to more than 100 inhabitants. There are a vast array of activities in this area from canoeing down the river Aude, horse riding (randonnee), mountain biking, quading, and then on to the gentler arts of walking, painting and writing, inspired by the timeless beauty of the area.
Getting around
You must have a car to stay here. We are outside the reach of public transport despite being so close to the City.

The area is an excellent cycling region.

How to get there
Airport: Carcassonne: 10.0 km
Railway: Carcassonne: 10.0 km
The simplest way to travel to Carcassonne is to fly to the city direct from one of many International Airports which have direct flights with Ryanair and Toulouse is only an hour away with Perpignan and Montpellier each an hour and a half away.

Ryanair has Carcassonne airport completely sewn up and their flights normally come from London Stansted, Liverpool, East Midlands, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Toulouse Airport is open to a much wider range of airlines and flights from the UK come from Bristol and Birmingham on Flybe and London Gatwick with Easyjet and British Airways. The airlines apart, the railways are excellent in France and provide a great alternative. And finally there are of course the Autoroutes for those travelling by car.
