Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Traditional, Peaceful Holiday 'Home'.
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days here in this quiet, rural part of Normandy. The accommodation is very clean, very suitable for children, particularly little ones and the chickens were a great bonus! A large garden to relax in with good garden furniture, barbecue, etc. Interesting area to explore, with glorious countryside and bustling towns with good shopping facilities. Maddie is bi-lingual, very knowledgable and very pleasant , also her husband Bruno likewise. Thankyou for your excellent hospitality Madeleine. Very much appreciated.

Quiet Haven
Lovely clean cottage in a very peaceful spot about 2 miles from Brionne.Maddie was very attentive but not intrusive, good facilities but no wi-fi......which suited us perfectly. A wonderful place to eat cheese, drink local cidre and lose yourself in a book, just what we wanted.perfect.

Perfect with kids!
We have just returned from a fantastic week at La Maisment. Despite mixed weather, we had a wonderful family holiday, due largely to Maddie and Bruno's hard work in making this gîte a real home from home. The children (aged 5 and 3) had the time of their lives playing with all the toys in their bedroom/playroom and the fabulous enclosed garden, feeding the chickens and making friends with the neighbours. It was so lovely to be able to just open the door and know they were happy and safe playing outside. On the rare occasions we were able to drag them away from the gîte, we found some great local places to explore, and we particularly enjoyed the lake at Brionne. All in all, about as relaxing as a holiday with young kids can be, and we are looking forward to returning next year!

Excellent!!

Everything You Need
Just spent 4 nights here and couldn't ask for more, the beds were very comfortable and the house was very clean. We were on a whistle-stop tour to show my daughters boyfriend some of the famous French places and this was a good base. Paris only 1 1/2 hours by car to Nanterre Prefecture, park in the Terrace car park then the train into Paris, get a Mobilis ticket for 9 Euros which will allow you to travel on all the Paris buses and trains ALL DAY (bargain) Mont St Michel was 2 1/2 hours but if you've never been you will never forget it (this was my 6th visit) And our last day was spent on the coast, first Omaha beach which was 1 1/2 hour drive, worth a visit to pay your respects to some real heroes and a good history lesson for the kids. The American cemetery is free and has a visitors centre which is very modern and informative. Honfleur is only 1 1/2 hours from the house and a beautiful harbour with plenty of places to have a great lunch and watch the world go by. That was our holiday but there is so much more to do and see, a lot of things are much closer to the house and if you want a more relaxed holiday sitting in the garden with a barbecue is also an option. I would like to thank Maddie for all her useful advice and supplying us with a lovely welcome pack, fresh eggs - milk - bread - coffee - orange juice - and most importantly a bottle of cider (lovely).

Lovely clean, well equipped accommodation with very helpful owners
Lovely quiet retreat. Close enough to supermarkets, shops etc. The kids loved all the toys and books available for them over the week - never a dull moment. Would thoroughly recommend to anybody staying in this part of Normandy.

Peaceful retreat and very rural
Really enjoyed our stay at this perfect gite which was very well equipped. We hired a car which you really need for this location, however used the train from Brionne Station for an excursion which was very convenient. Lovely rural setting. We enjoyed feeding the chickens and goat and lovely country walks. Maddie and Bruno were very friendly, helpful and kind. Loved the delicious goodies from Brionne patisserie and further excursions at Honfleur, Giverny and Rouene (not as 'vibrant' as advertised). Great holiday experience. Very very good value for money. Loved it!

The Perfect Place From Which to Explore Normandy
La Maisment couldn't have been better! Beautifully appointed, scrupulously clean and a great place for children to play- what is not to like? Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, Maddie and Bruno, who went out of their way to research train times for our trip to Bayeux and provided an excellent welcome pack. Our eleven year old loved the chickens and goat that are kept at the property and there were also lots of suitable toys and games for her. The local town, Brionne, was a great place to practise rusty classroom French and the locals were friendly and encouraging- no one laughed or was uncooperative. I would not hesitate in recommending this beautiful gite to anyone.

Within walking distance of La Maisment : Water mill and 15th century Tithe Barn in the village and Castle + Gardens in the next village. Brionne (2 miles. Population 5000) : has a twice-weekly colourful market (Sundays + Thursdays). Here you can choose some fresh fish + seafood or buy a chicken roasted on the spit with a French stick still warm from the oven. There's a leisure and sports area idyllically set by a lake where you can swim, fish, play tennis, crazy golf, hire a peddle boat or a canoe, cook your own food in the barbecue area or just relax under the trees. Several restaurants, supermarkets, banks, chemists, and terrace cafés. The local tourist office is open daily (even on Sundays and Bank Holidays) and they have plenty of information about local events. Bernay (8 miles. Population 11,000) : Typical Norman architecture including an 11th century minster and several old timbered houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries which now house shops and terrace cafés in the main street. Market town (Saturday mornings) with many local products on offer, many made by small family businesses - Cheeses : Camembert, Pont L'Eveque, Livarot. Drinks : Cider, Calvados + Pommeau. Two parks with play areas for children, one in the Museum grounds. An indoor and outdoor swimming pool (depending on the season) with a paddling pool. During the summer months almost every Sunday you can visit a Brocante / Foire à Tout (Local Street Fair / Flea Market) and get some amazing bargains for just a few euros.(Check with Maddie - she knows all the local haunts)
