Holiday Rental House -
4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms , Sleeps 8
Migron, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine
In the 19th century, Thouvenin was the station hotel. The railway has long since gone and quiet has returned to the village. In 2015 the mezannine area, fully undercover and accessible from the ground and first floors, was converted into a private café/bar, capturing the feel of a stylish, but lost era. Its louvred wall provides dappled shade even at the height of summer.

The village Pretre’s cassock hangs on the hatstand alongside the Gendarme’s cap, beside thirsty travellers’ luggage awaiting their departure. It is furnished with tables and sofas and the hand crafted zinc bar has both a fridge and a freezer hidden within it. It’s a fabulous spot for breakfast, or leisurely enjoying a good book out of the sun and the perfect place for a late night drink at the end of a relaxing day. We can even arrange to stock the bar before you arriv...

Reviewed 31 December 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed here in August 2015 as two families sharing; two couples, five children. The house was an ample size for all of us to get along, the largest bedroom is enormous. At the house we loved eating outside, relaxing by the pool and playing boules. The housekeeper was very helpful and friendly. We walked to the bakers in the...

From the minute we arrived till when we barely managed to tear ourselves away from the pool to set off home we felt as if we were having a truly authentic taste of France. Set in the beautiful town of Migron, Thouvenin is a wonderful house that oozes the history and character of the cognac region. The house itself is...

Thouvenin is a wonderful rambling house in the picturesque village of Migron, situated close to the two historic towns of Saintes and Cognac in the Poitou-Charentes region of Western France. The house and beautiful grounds have got absolutely everything you need for a perfect holiday. Large, spacious, and airy rooms can easily accommodate eight people in the mansion and five...

About the neighbourhood
The small village of Migron, with its pretty, 11th Century stone church, is perfect for those who want beautiful countryside, but don't want to be too remote, with a boulangerie, a butcher, a well-stocked mini-market compete with a tiny coffee shop, post office and a weekly visit from a fresh fish van. Oysters and mussels are sold in front of the epicerie every Saturday morning. A pizza van with a wood-burning oven visits every Monday evening

A new supermarket, with 24/7 fuel station, opened in 2016 just five minutes drive away in Burie. The same village has the nearest bar to the house.

Excellent markets can be found nearby in Saintes, Cognac, St Jean d'Angely, Matha, Burie, among others. Brocantes (or flea markets) are held in local villages on most weekends, and artisan...

Travelling By Air

Ryanair operate regular budget flights to La Rochelle, the nearest airport and about 60 minutes from the house and reached via good roads. There are also budget and scheduled airline services into Poitiers, Nantes and Bordeaux; the latter is also about an hour away because of the fast motorway connection. Ryanair have also offered service Rochefort, which is even closer, but these do not always appear in the schedules…

Car hire is available at all the above airports. We will provide directions from the airport to the house.
