There is plenty of literature to tell you about the surroundings but if you need more information feel free to ask. We have made friends with past guests but realise that this is YOUR holiday so we can also keep out of your way if you prefer

About the neighbourhood
Charente Maritime reputedly has the second sunniest climate in the whole of France. The countryside here is beautiful with rolling hillsides covered in vines, extensive walking, horse riding & cycling trails, forests, historic towns & villages and bountiful local produce.
Our local town is Montendre, a settlement has been here since before Roman times. It has a small ruined chateaux on the hill in the centre of town. A walk up to the Chateaux tower & ramparts is rewarded with beautiful views over the town & surrounding countryside. Nearby are the vineyards of Bordeaux, St Emilion & Cognac, beaches of the Cote Beaute & Charente & Dordogne rivers.
Getting around
Getting around is easy here on quiet rural French roads. Whether it be by car or bicycle you will find good quality roads, very light of traffic. If you enjoy walking or off road cycling there are hundreds of 'chemin blanc' (white roads), chalk based farm tracks and the many 'voie verte' (green ways), usually old railway lines, now tarmacked for easy cycling & walking.

Getting to Vacheroy is easy. We are situated 10 minutes off the N10, 30 minutes off the A10 if you are coming by car.

Vacheroy is easily accessible from the Channel ports. We have used Calais (Euro Tunnel) which is under an 8hr drive, Dieppe, under 7 hours & St Malo, Caen & Le Havre which are between 5 & 6 hours, all using the autoroutes.

Bordeaux airport is under an hours drive, Bergerac airport 90 minutes & either Limoges or La Rochelle, 2hrs drive.

By train, Angouleme on the TGV is now about 90 minutes from Paris, car hire is available there & we are a 40 minute drive. The brand new TGV to Bordeaux gets you there in under 2hrs 30 minutes & again car hire is available, the drive to us being an easy 45 minutes.
