There is unlimited free Wi-Fi (who can live without it these days?!). As this is our dedicated couples' gite, Le Chai has its private outside area at the front of the house (rather than at the rear with the other units) which is screened & fenced and in the sunniest corner of our sheltered courtyard, with a stone barbeque, table and chairs, and your own sun loungers. This area looks out south with open views of the local countryside, where you can relax in the sun or cool a little under the canopy and watch the birds which flock over the local farmers' fields. It has a closable gate which separates it from the rest of the courtyard and keeps it private. It's the only one of our gîtes to have an seating area at the front which therefore makes it the most peaceful, and it's ideal for our glorious Charentais summer evenings. At the rear of the house, you'll find our glorious 10mx5m heated pool, and we provide a sports net and lots of racquets & balls for anyone who’s feeling energetic, and table football & table tennis in the shade for those who aren't!. Because we’re the last property on the lane, there are no passing cars (just the occasional tractor), and we’re surrounded by fields of sunflowers or maize and an oak wood. Our location is peaceful and rural, with a pork butcher and cognac & pineau distillery within walking distance, a bakery, a general store and a seasonal al-fresco restaurant in a village 4 miles away, and a different restaurant in a village 3 miles away. With over ten years’ experience of welcoming guests to our holiday rental properties here, we can offer lots of help & advice and to help you plan your days out, we have prepared a book of our own recommendations of where to go & what to see, and how best to enjoy this beautiful area, depending on what kind of day out takes your fancy. Because we live on site, we’re usually on hand if you need us for any kind of advice, and we have teenage daughters who are only too happy to offer their babysitting services for a small fee, should you fancy an adults-only evening (or daytime!!). I know that your stay was to be a really "relax & get away from it all" holiday for you, and I'm very pleased that you found the peace & quiet you needed with us here. We look forward to seeing you again, this part...More

The location is great away from it all with little villages a couple of miles away. We stayed in the 1 bedroom gite which was ideal for us and had all we needed. The trivial downside was there is no access to the amazing pool...More

Very happy you enjoyed your stay so much - and glad the walk to the pool didn't bother you, we set it up like this so that our 'couples' guests could benefit from having their private space at the front away from everyone else. I...More

Comfy, practical accommodation in a rural setting. The gite is well equipped for a relaxed break. There is a good sized pool set within a sun trap patio area. The surrounding area is rural and peaceful, the local town is easily reached by car. Hosts...More

Thank you for letting us know about the bed - we don't sleep in our guest beds ourselves, but perhaps we should do once in a while to make sure this doesn't happen to another guest. The mattress has now been replaced, I just wish...More

About the neighbourhood
The local market town of Jonzac, has a full range of shops, banks and supermarkets. There is an excellent choice of restaurants, within 15 minutes drive. Between them, the local towns of Jonzac and Montendre hold fresh markets four days a week, and in fact there is a market somewhere near us, every day of the week - including Sundays. Jonzac is a stunning medieval town, with an imposing 15th-century château with guided tours in English. In addition it has thermal baths whose treatments are extensive, and whose waters have been recognised for their effectiveness in treating various complaints. The local swimming complex has a water slide, tropical lagoon, wavepool, bubble spas and saunas. The views of the countryside surrounding our land are breathtaking, including our over 2 acres of groun...
