Perfect for a couple or solo traveller; the Fauld is a beautiful, 200 year old quirky cottage adjoining the owner's home, built in the 1800's, around the same time as the nearby Carlisle to Settle railway. Parking is on-road and access is via sandstone steps into a pretty, cobbled shared-courtyard. Outdoor table and chairs are provided for guests. A secure store for cycles is available upon request. The Fauld is well equipped and furnished to a high standard, with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It has a wood-burning stove, original sandstone floors and sandstone staircase. The ceiling height downstairs is 7ft/2.1m and there are low beams above the sandstone staircase, so please take extra care if you are tall! There is WIFI and a smart TV with Freeview. Further supplies of kindling and logs can be purchased at the village shop, which is open every day. The well- equipped, modern kitchen has an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a slow cooker is provided, so dinner can be ready for when you return from your day out. Upstairs, there is a shower room with luxury toiletries and a large bedroom, with a comfortable king size bed. Beautiful bed linen, soft towels and cosy robes are provided. The owner is an artist specialising in mixed media and stained glass and original art work is on display in the cottage. You will receive a personal and very warm welcome on your arrival. More

About the neighbourhood
Armathwaite is a peaceful rural village in the heart of the Eden Valley, on the northern fringe of the Lake District World Heritage site. There are beautiful riverside and woodland walks right on the doorstep. The historic church of Christ and Saint Mary is always open. It dates back to the 1400's and has stained glass windows by Burne- Jones and by Phil Dutton. There are 2 pubs within walking distance and both serve food. Eden stores and post office is a traditional village shop, open 7 days a week, supplying a wide range of products and great quality Cumbrian produce. The town of Penrith is a 20 minute drive away and has a good selection of shops and supermarkets. Alternatively, the City of Carlisle is also a 20 minute drive away or 13 m
Getting around
The Famous Carlisle to Settle railway passes through Armathwaite. Buy your tickets on line and catch a train to enjoy this scenic railway route through the Cumbria and Yorkshire Dales landscape. A short drive South and you are in the Lake District National Park; a UNESCO World Heritage site. Go North and in 30 minutes, you can be in the Scottish Borders, with Glasgow about 2 hours drive from Armathwaite or 1 hour 15 minutes by train from Carlisle.
