Situated between the small sleepy village of Gabillou and the hamlet of Pauliac in the peaceful countryside of the Perigord Noir, Le Petit Chambon provides an ideal base from which to visit the many attractions of the Dordogne - Montignac, canoeing on the Vezere, Perigueux the capital of the Dordogne, Sarlat, the Lascaux caves and lots more. The gite has been fully renovated and is tiled throughout with great views onto the courtyard. The lounge is spacious with a large wood burner and fully equipped 'cuisine americane'. If you fancy trying a few new recipes whilst you are here we are happy to provide additional equipment, herbs and spices, or if you just want to relax and eat out you can visit one of local restaurants which are a short drive away . The bedroom is light and airy with a double bed, plenty of cupboard space and view onto the courtyard and gardens. The gite has a spacious 'wet room' style shower and wc, plus a separate wc and basin. There is also a laundry room with washing machine. Bed-linen and towels are all provided and changed weekly including pool towels (we don't want you to have to add extra luggage just to pack towels!). Relax around the pool, read a book sitting at the pretty blue table and chairs in the courtyard or take a deckchair and find a shady spot in the garden. There is ample private parking in the courtyard and in an open barn next to the gite.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Location is amazing. Everything you need for a quiet get away. Beautiful spacious accommodation
Paul the owner could not have been more accommodating, his welcome pack of food and wine was a lovely touch, the Gite is so spacious for two People and immaculately clean , weather permitting the pool is a lovely size and everything fir outdoor sunbathing and barbecuing are at hand, The surrounding area is outstanding fir beauty and lovey market towns with exclusive restaurants. Very reasonable prices. A local carrefour has everything you need as does the local Boulangers The Dordogne area is a must !

Wonderful gite - a home from home
A very secluded and quiet setting for this well-equipped gite. Perfect for couples looking for a tranquil place in a beautiful part of France, yet close enough to some popular tourist destinations (e.g. Lascaux) and interesting towns. Wonderful for francophiles

Super amenities and warm welcome.
My second visit, and again a warm welcome from Paul. The gite was freshly decorated and is spacious with everything I needed. There was a very generous welcome pack too. The pool area is sunny and open, and the grounds are extensive in a peaceful area. There are plenty of nearby attractive towns and villages. I hope to return soon. Thanks Paul, and all the best.

Amazing gite in beautiful, rural setting, with excellent facilities
The gite is stunning. Set in a lovely courtyard and surrounded on all sides by meadows and farmland. We had the most relaxing and peaceful stay. The gite is beautifully decorated as well as very well-equipped and an extremely generous welcome pack was provided when we arrived. The weather was good enough to allow us to swim on several occasions. The pool is gorgeous, and private, and the ideal sun trap at the end of a day sightseeing. Paul and Gina couldn’t have been more helpful and we’re able to tell us lots about the local area. It was lovely knowing that they were close by, if needed. All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing week in an amazing location.

Spacious, comfortable gite with private swimming pool
Close to many Dordogne attractions, this is an absolute jewel. Paul and Gina could not be more friendly or helpful, and the welcome pack is doubtless the best ever, including wine and freshly baked bread. Living adjacent, the owners are quite unobtrusive, yet react quickly to ones needs. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable, and the pool is for the sole use of visitors. A wonderful, relaxing gite, with all the amenities you could ask for. We will be back!

Home from home
The gite was lovely and comfortable. Had everything we needed and more. Large and spacious for us. The pool was great to come back to each day, after exploring this truly beautiful area. Thanks Paul and Gina for the lovely provisions we had on our first day, and for all your tips on places to visit, we had a fantastic holiday.

Thanks Angela for your kind words. We always say to our guests, treat the gite (and the gardens, pool etc) as if it were your own home. We also try to make sure there is everything you might need in a house, i.e. a coffee maker, plenty of pans/dishes etc , pool towels or even toilet rolls, (especially if you are not sure what to bring!) - Anyway thank-you again. You are always welcome to come back again.

The Gite was everything we could have wished.
The gite was everything we had hoped for - quiet, rural setting although not too far from shops, restaurants etc. The owners were delightful, friendly people but not intrusive and the 'welcome pack' was the best we've ever had! We were looking for restful break but there are numerous places of interest & pretty villages to visit in the vicinity. We plan to visit again.

Milly, Thanks for your kind words. We have always had the view that even on holiday, it should be a home away from home. You're more than welcome to come and stay with us to sample more of the delights of the Dordogne (including the music!)

How to get there
Le Petit Chambon is in the Perigord Noir which is severed by several airports serving - Bergerac, Limoges, Brive and Bordeaux. Limoges and Bergerac are both about 1 hour 15 minutes away from the house. Limoges to the north and Bergerac to the south. From the UK you can fly with either Ryanair, Flybe, Jet 2 from various airports to Limoges and Bergerac. CityJet flys between Brive and London City Airport. Brive Airport is located in Nespouls, south of Brive and not far from the A20 Autoroute and 45 minutes from Les Chambons. Bordeaux is 2 hours away and is served by Ryanair and Easyjet. You can get to us easily by car either from the N89 at Thenon or from the D704 from Limoges. From the D704 take the sign post Sainte-Orse about 10 minutes past Saint Agnan (by Hautefort) and follow the signs for Sainte-Orse (10 minutes) once you arrive in Sainte-Orse centre (its tiny) you will come to a T-junction. Turn right, down a hill and take the left hand turn at the bottom of the hill signposted Gabillou. Follow this road for 4Km - do not go to the left to Gabillou. Just pas the Gabillou turning you will see a pretty stone cottage called Le Chambons, this is our neighbour. Les Chambons is the big house on the left just afterwards, Le Petit Chambon is in the courtyard, go past the house and turn right through the large iron gates into the courtyard. From the N89 which goes through Thenon as if you are driving from Perigueux to Thenon, get to the main crossroads in Thenon and then turn left towards Sainte-Orse about 7km (you will go under the railway and motorway bridges and then see another sign to Sainte-Orse (6km) follow this to Sainte-Orse which is a small village. On the route you will also see signs to Gabillou - this is a more complicated route which we can explain to you once you have found us for the first time. Once in Sainte-Orse follow the signs for Gabillou (through the village, down a hill and then left to Gabillou. Follow this road D70 for about 4Km - do not go left up the hill to Gabillou. We are situated just past the tiny locality of Vaudres and below the actual village of Gabillou. Follow the directions as above. The closest train station is in Thenon, 7 km. The train stations of Périgueux and Brive la Gaillarde are respectively 34 km and 53 km away (SNCF).
