The Old Apple Store is one of two gites that have recently been refurbished. It is set in a small complex comprising the owners house and two independent gites on a 5 acre site situated in the peaceful hamlet of Puymangou in the Western Dordogne.
The property is full of character having been created from the original farm cottage and the old apple store. There is a bright sunny lounge/diner with a log burner and wonderful views of the countryside. Stairs lead up to the double bedroom and bathroom with bath and separate shower (both with stunning views) Leading off the living area is a spacious kitchen opening onto a private decked area with barbecue and outdoor seating. About the neighbourhood
Puymangou is close to St Aulaye, which has a supermarket, basic shops, post office and bank. This summer the "Felibree" - a traditional Occitan festival - is being held there over the first weekend in July. Further afield the towns of Chalais and La Roche-Chalais have a wider range of facilities and weekly markets. The weekly open-air market in nearby Riberac is one of the biggest. <BR>Driving along the peaceful country roads you come upon one pretty village after another, many with Romanesque churches, quaint local houses and usually a bar or restaurant. A short drive away is Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, one of the most beautiful villages in France with it's riverside setting, pretty square full of tables and chairs, and old wooden-balconied houses spilling down the hillside.... more

Ryanair and Easyjet fly to Bergerac (1hr 15mins) and Bordeaux (1hr 15 mins) and slightly further afield to Limoges or Poitiers (approx. 2 hrs)<BR>The TGV from Paris stops at Angouleme or Bordeaux and local trains run to Chalais (12 km)<BR>By road the journey from Calais takes 7hrs 30mins using toll roads.
