Kuca Kelsey - The Pearl of Povlja

Townhouse -
3 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Povlja, Brac Island, Split-Dalmatia County, Dalmatia
Relax and enjoy this spacious 19th century stone house lovingly restored and fitted out to a high standard, just steps from the water. Our three-story home sleeps six and consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, wine cellar and a nearby olive grove (with a sea view!). Experience a quality stay in a small, picturesque village on the island of culture and adventure.

Totally refurbished, your vacation home is built of locally-quarried Brač stone and has a traditional terra cotta tile roof and oak shutters. UPDATE: For 2016, we've added Bluetooth speakers for streaming your music in every room!

Not surprisingly, since the owners live in Sweden, the ground floor is open plan and allows guests a choice of seating. Sit at the granite counter with a glass of wine and chat with the cook (who will love the kitchen!) or gather on the b...

About the neighbourhood
Many visitors come for the day to visit a partially-preserved early Christian basilica built between the fifth and sixth century located near the entrance to the village. Its size suggests that it was an important religous center for the island. Benedictine monks erected a monastery at the end of the 9th century/early 10th century which was attacked a number of times by pirates. Followers of St. John (Sveti Ivan) persisted in rebuilding the church and the defensive tower remains to this day.Today primarily known as a quiet tourist destination, Povlja is also well-known for its contribution to the early written history of Croatia. The lintel above the door of the monastery from 1184 survives to this day and its carvings are regarded as being the earliest verses in Croatian Cyrillic foun... more

How to get there
Airport: Split: 58.0 km
Railway: Split - located by the ferry port: 44.0 km
Ferry: Supetar or Sumartin (next door village): 44.0 km
From Split Airport:

Buses go directly from the airport to the harbor in Split and then it's just a short walk along the pier to the ferry terminal. The trip usually takes no more than 40 minutes and the bus departure times are linked to the arrival of Croatia Airlines flights. Cost is less than 5 Euros.

Taxis are located just outside the arrivals hall. Agree on the price before getting into the vehicle. At the time of this writing, the cost is about 300 kuna.

If renting a car at the Split Airport, ask for directions to the ferry (trajekt). (We often missed the second right-hand turn in Split because we failed to see the lane markings for trajekt painted on the road.) Allow 45 – 60 minutes to drive the 25 km from the airport to the ferry. Drive along the port until you come to a...
