About the neighbourhood
Phillip Island has everything. Cowes is the main town - banks, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, supermarkets, hardware stores. Then there is Rhyll, Newhaven and just off the Island is a beautiful fishing village of San Remo where you can watch pelicans being fed. There is fishing, surfing, swimming, sight seeing, walks, bird watching, local wildlife, golf, croquet, bowls, footy. Between May and October there are whales to be seen both in Bass Straight and in Westernport. There are cruises, a ferry service - go to Visit Phillip Island website for full details. So much to do here.
Getting around
Phillip Island is a pretty big Island so a car or a bike is essential. There is a taxi service. Otherwise there are some really great walks. Cowes is a good 10km walk along the beach from Ventnor, but you will need to make sure you do it at low tide.
