We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Old St John's Church. I would recommend this to anyone. It is set in such a beautiful spot, plenty of space around the church to play with little ones, or relax with a glass of wine. The church itself has been renovated to an absolutely superb standard. Wow; where do we start...if you fancy a break from the norm, somewhere special - look no further. Booked the holiday for our mums 60th, and it didn't disappoint at all! Just returned from 5 night break at St Johns church. The church has been beautifully converted. Lots of space, immaculately clean and with all you could need for a great holiday including a bottle of wine on arrival. Village is very quiet with some nice walks near by. About the neighbourhood
Penrith is the main town of the North Lakes. It is on the boundary of the Lake District National Park, with Ullswater and Haweswater just a throw away with remainder of the Lakes not too far either. Near to Gamblesby is Long Meg and her daughters (stone circle), Little Salkeld water mill, South Tyndale Railway, Coombes Wood, Kirk Neuk studio and the Village Bakery. Hadrian's walls is also close by.

By Car - leave the M6 at junction 40, take the A66 east (Appleby/Brough), at the next roundabout take the A686 following signs for Alston. Travel approx. 9 miles to Melmerby, as you leave the village there is a sharp right hand bend, take a left turn on this bend (signed Gamblesby). Travel ~1 mile, as you enter the village you will see Old St. John's Church on the left.
