Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Amazing Lodge and amazing Hosts!
We stayed at Deerdale Lodge for a long weekend and cannot fault our hosts and the lodge. Everything was well thought out which led to a truly wonderful stay. The whole lodge was decorated and equipped to a very high standard and the setting was absolutely perfect! Private, perfect and we cannot wait to visit again!

Peaceful and Beautiful Escape
Such a beautiful property , full enclosed and in the woods. Our dog loved to watch the squirrels. The inside of the property is so cosy , we loved all the cute details. especially the sofa which folded out perfect for cuddling in front of the wood burner. The bed was so comfy with lots of pillows, plenty of towels too even one for the dog! It really did have everything you need, games and dvd's, books and more, it was perfect for us 2 although it does sleep up to 4 I wish we had stayed longer as there was so much to do an see locally and the folder provided by the host was so helpful. Lynda met us there and help show us round and made sure we knew how to work everything, which we really appreciated. such an enjoyable stay

A gem of a place away from the madness
I am reviewing on behalf of my daughter and New son-in-law who stayed a few nights for a little honeymoon break ....including their dog. We also visited (for a dip and a glass of champs) and what a beautiful lodge it was. Very modern, everything you would need for a comfortable break and within fabulous woodland. The hot tub was used as a cool tub: they were using the Lodge when the temp hit >38 degrees so they were thankful it was there to cool them down. Idilic luxury and the hosts were gracious and accessable to any questions raised of them. I myself plan to book it again for a little winter break- it was that nice.

Great local getaway
Such a beautiful little place for a long weekend break for our 1st wedding anniversary. Close to our home in Nottingham, but nestled deep in Sherwood forest. Everything we could need was available and of high quality, we borrowed the bikes and adventured through the pines and found a great pub (The dog and duck). The star of the show was the hot tub! So relaxing surrounded by nature and wildlife whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly. Also a special mention as we told Lynda last minute that we follow a vegan diet and she had a fantastic hamper waiting for us which was very thoughtful and kind. We had a lovely stay and would definitely book here again if we get the chance in the future.

Break away from the daily grind
This was our second stay at the Deerdale Lodge, the last time in March 2018, and both times we have loved it. The location is perfect for going out for daily walks and the hot tub is the perfect antidote for aching legs at the end of the day! It’s a very quiet area and perfect for switching off and having relaxing break. Lynda and Stu are lovely hosts and always accommodating. I’m sure we’ll be back again in the future.

Deerdale lodge
Amazing lodge in the middle of Sherwood Forest. Self catering but everything you could need is at the lodge. One of the best breaks away I have had anywhere. Not much will top it.

Beautiful ,idylic forest reteat.
The lodge is an idylic retreat with Sherwood forest on the literal doorstep. Private and secluded with an outstanding attention to detail and comfort. This was a surprise trip for my partners birthday, we live very busy lives and needed down time together and wow this was delivered.Lynda & Stu welcomed us, with a personal tour and the loan of 2 bikes for our stay. The hot tub was just the cherry on the cake after walking/cycling in the expanse of Sherwood Forest. We did not want to leave at the end of our 4 days. We will definately return in the future. It will be our special place.

Five star perfection!
Believe the reviews, Deerdale Lodge is fantastic. If you are looking for a break of peace and quiet, in beautiful surroundings, this is for you. The quality of the lodge cannot be beat. From bedding to cutlery, appliances, hot tub, everything is top notch. Lovely welcome pack of treats laid on too. Can honestly say this was a very rare niggle free break, we were so impressed. The owners are nearby if needed but you are totally private so book with confidence. Will definitely return.

Simply Amazing
If you are looking for a log cabin look no further than this!!! It is simply amazing the best we have stayed in and we have stayed in a few. It is so secluded situated (basically in the forest)off a single track road (I didn't even hear another car) there are walks right outside the gates, unreal scenery and within walking distance of some fantastic pubs. The cabin is so cozy from the log burner to the pull out settee that makes the perfect chill zone right in front of the tv, to the fantastic hot tub (one of the best we have been in)that is 2 steps away from the patio doors. The garden is beautiful and so secure we had no problem letting our dog out to enjoy it. I bet it is even better (if possible)in the summer. Lynda and Stu are amazing so friendly with masses of information about the surrounding area and what is going on. All you need to bring is your food and drink everything else is catered for we needed for nothing, Lynda and Stu have thought of everything. We arrived to a beautiful welcome pack that was the icing on the cake. We just want to thank Lynda and Stu for everything they did for valentine's day and so much more, we will definitely be back. Ps Bailey says thank you too for the treats even tho he can be grumpy at times. Thanks again Paul and Toni.

About the neighbourhood
Lots of nearby attractions for families, including Sherwood Pines tourist Visitor Centre, Go-Ape Tree-Top Adventure, family events and pop concerts throughout the year. For younger children there is also White Post Animal Farm, and Wheelgate Adventure Park within 10 minutes drive, with Sundown Adventure Land a little further away. For the young at heart there is Amen Corner Karting track and Lockwell Hill Activity Centre (Quads & off-roading) within 10 minutes drive, the former also reached by cycling through the forest. Paintball Jungle which also has quads is 1 mile away. Major Oak at Sherwood Forest is 15 minutes drive. Good places to eat and drink can also be accessed by walking or cycling through the forest, including the Dog & Duck at Old Clipstone and Rose Cottage near Rufford. There are plenty of historical country estates - (Rufford Abbey Country Park approx. 2 miles/Clumber Park approx. 8 miles and Newstead Abbey and grounds approx 9 miles). Thoresby Hall is a spa hotel and has lovely grounds with a shopping courtyard. Southwell is a lovely small town, with a Minster, Workhouse and all-weather horse racing course. Rufford Park Golf Course is 10 minutes drive. There is a working windmill with tea rooms at Tuxford and Thaymar icecream parlour and tea rooms within 20 minutes drive.
Getting around
The lodge is situated in sherwood forest so straight outside the lodge into beautiful walks I would highly recommend walking to the visitors centre and having nice hot chocolate or even breakfast. Visitors centre approx 20-25 min walk. Newark and Nottingham is the nearest train stations. Mansfield has a train service to Nottingham and workshop. All local attractions are easily accecable by car. Local stagecoach is the bus company. We will supply taxi service numbers if required.
