Thank you . History Hipswell village was known as Hipplewell of the Domesday book and about the year 1228 the Mill was in possession of Hugh , a son of Robert de Hipeswel . An inventory in 1559 describes the movable tools in the Mill along with the millers bed . The Mill over looks the grade 1 listed hall a former Manor House and now a grand farm house , also the Garth where the original village ancient church once stood . The Mill has a complete set of grinding machinery including two sets of large mill stones in situ all within the property. The 16 foot diameter over shot cast iron water wheel with wooden buckets has replaced a former medieval timber wheel of which scouring can be seen in the stone wall and is housed in the rear of the mill building with a Constant Spring running out to the tail race. The last millers the Metcalfe family who had a 250 year association with Hipswell Mill stopped milling shortly before world war 2 at a time when all corn mills were in decline . Descendants of the family still live in the village . All the machinery and water wheel would indeed turn again even though it is a long time since the sound of grinding was hushed in Hipswell Mill and the Miller has finished his life’s work and gone hence . Mill house is a beautiful grade 2 listed Corn Mill with original mill workings in situ within the dining room of Mill house . The property is secluded but not isolated with many amenities near by including a large supermarket for all those essentials and good road links to the dales, York, Harrogate Ripon and many other places to explore. The house is full of character , On entering through the front door you will find yourself in a well equipped kitchen with a large range cooker a large American style fridge freezer . Leading from the kitchen you will come to the lovely homely living room with plenty of room for all. there is a gas stove which is great for that instant warmth ( it looks like a woodburner) making the living room warm and cosy , There are lots of lovely original character such as the oak beams and wood panelling. Through the another door from the kitchen you will find the large dining room with a table to comfortably seat 6/8 people and what a talking point whilst having dinner the original Mill workings in situ within the dining room. The Master bedroom (family room ) is a very large room with a king size bed ( and a sofa bed to sleep one adult or two children if willing to share ) it also boasts a double ended bath within the bedroom for that bit of luxury and a lovely large shower room en suite . The second bedroom with king size bed also has an en suite shower room . The third bedroom has a single bed ( trundle bed for that extra bed when needed ) this room also has a en suite bathroom , giving each bedroom their own private bathroom facilities. There is a medium size garden to the rear with a raised patio area. plenty of room for dining alfresco. More
