Holiday Rental House
Foss Cottage, is a south-facing, delightful self-catering holiday cottage with a wonderful sea view. It is right on the edge of the village of East Prawle on the beautiful South Devon coast between Salcombe and Dartmouth
It is ideal for beach holidays, walking holidays or bird enthusiasts. You can see the sea while lying in bed in the main bedrooms. There is a large front garden with flower beds and terraces for sunbathing and eating out. At the west side of the cottage is an orchard, also with lovely views space for playing, paths up through the rocks and hidden seats for sunbathing and reading..

The cottage has always been a family cottage with a happy feel and an individual style. The rooms are spacious and the furniture is comfortable and cottage style. The walls are covered with pictures. The sitting room is large and bright and has a lovely open fire with night storage & electric heaters. The bookshelves are full of light reading. There is a panoramic view of the Channel. The kitchen is large and has a round table for family eating.
For a full walk through find our video on YouTube - search for Foss Cottage East Prawle (can't put a link here!)
The cottage is an ideal rental for families who want a well-equipped self-catering option, sleeping 8+, (there are beds for 7 adults, 2 child size beds, a spare single mattress and a cot, so if all guests are adults 8 would be maximum but up to 10 with children and a baby) but equally delightful for a couple or small group. Good for beach holidays (numerous beaches), walking (the West Coastal Path of South Devon), sailing and activities, and also winter breaks as there is good heating and a log fire.
There are 2 fridges, a freezer compartment, an electric stove and also a dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. All rooms except the small childrens' bedroom also have a view of the sea. There are electric heaters in the bedrooms and heaters and open fire in the sitting room.
The two main bedrooms are double rooms - large, light and airy, facing the sea. There is a smaller back room with child size twin beds (no view) and another twin bedroom with a view facing west. There is a bathroom and a shower room, both have toilets and underfloor heating. A lovely garden, terraces, orchard, table for eating out, and as we are at the end of the village, we are totally secluded and no one passes by.
Sleeps 7-10
2 double bedrooms. 1 of the double bed bedrooms also has a single bed
1 twin room
1 small twin room with child-size beds
1 bathroom with toilet and basin
1 shower room with toilet and basin
1 travel cot
1 high chair
Please note there is NO WIFI or TV or mobile reception. There is Wifi in the pub which is 8 minutes walk away and mobile reception near there.
There is a large garden with an orchard, with room for children to play and camp. Paths to seats above the house give wonderful views over the seascape. You can sit up there and read where no one can find you. Sometimes at spring half term lambs are born in the field in front. Big sailing boats, or once a Russian style submarine, and even the Royal yacht Britannia when it still existed, pass quite close in front. The sea and sky change constantly and there is always something to watch. There is a micro-climate at East Prawle and often the wind holds the clouds back over the land and we can have sun in Prawle on cloudy days.
The nearest beach, Horsley, is roughly 1/2 mile's walk away down a steep hill. There are many glorious beaches, some sandy, some rocky, some shingle, some accessible by car, all along the coast. You can take your pick and vary the beach you go to each day, if you like.

After coming to Foss for over thirty years (many at Foss or other cottages in East Prawle) This is the first time I have celebrated my birthday here in this magical cottage. Sadly no welcome pack , but was fortunate to get a short break....More
The sun shone during this week, loved sitting outside just watching the world or should that be the ships go by. Having no TV, WiFi makes you talk to others and spend time with your nose in a good book which the house has many.

When the sea and clear blue sky (a lucky break, admittedly) form the view when you wake up in the morning, and there are utterly glorious walks and hidden beachy coves so close by, it's hard to ask for much better. We even coped with...More
Really great stay in this charming cottage. Really beautiful view and the most amazing location. Well equipped, warm and clean, what more can you ask for. We were even treated to scones and clotted cream on our arrival.

So glad you had a great time and enjoyed the scones!
Fab location in a village we have stayed in for the last 11 years, with the rest of the family visiting for the last 25 years plus!!! Cottage is lovely and well equipped but the best feature has to be sitting outside the front door...More

Thank you! So glad you had a good time. Yes, the view is amazing - just fields, sea and sky and no-one passing by.
We had a lovely week in this cottage that has the feel of a well-loved family holiday home. The location is wonderful. Walks from the cottage are amazing. Just sitting inside with the log fire burning looking out at the sea is pretty good too.

Thanks Rowland and I'm so glad you had a good time. Sitting with the log fire burning looking at the sea is my favourite occupation too. Do come back soon!
We visited Foss cottage after staying in a nearby smaller cottage over many years so we knew what to expect from East Prawle and the fantastic views over the Channel and were not disappointed. A truly lovely place to relax, unwind and get away from...More

Getting around
If you like walking, that's the best way to get around when you're down there. There is no public transport, apart from the community Coleridge bus that goes to Kingsbridge for a 2 hour shopping trip on Wednesdays!
If you have a car, the nearest larger shop is a 15 minute drive.
