The house is a piece of Montevideo's history, full of colonial charm and period features. It was built in 1890 by the Country's premier furniture producer. 120 years later, it has been fully refurbished to comply with modern standards for accommodation, but still retaining its original features and atmosphere.

It does the job
Inexpensive, nice people-they try to be very accommodating. Very nice bathrooms, men on the bottom and woman’s on the next floor up. Towels and bed sheets provided as well as your own little refrigerator nook and pantry basket. If you can climb a number of stairs and live without air conditioning this is a good place to stay in Old Town. Just do not walk to far off the beaten path or stay out past dark as the streets become a little shady. Independent plaza is very close as is the McDonalds and Burger King. Lite English is spoken as well as Portuguese and Spanish on occasions. Patio on the roof to watch the ships coming and going. Mercado Del Port is within walking distance and is the equivalent to a great big food court. We recommend the chicken with mushroom sauce at Puerto Fragata.
