This house is a stunning piece of history and architecture. If you want to stay in old town and really be IN Lamu, stay here. The manager Bahresh (sp) was extraordinary and the houseman, Ali, is quite a unique character. It is priced very fairly.

Ali is a sweet sweet man but he is also not one to give you privacy unless you specifically ask, which can make you feel awkward and bossy. We spent most of our time on the top floor and Ali would freely venture up whenever he saw fit with no warning, which can ruin romantic moments as well as invade basic privacy as the bathroom door on the top floor does not close. Ali asks many questions, most of which we found endearing but he also made it known he disapproved of my tattoos (much like a parent would) but he did so with a smile. Also, yes he will shop for you but dont expect him to bring your change back- no matter how much it is. We had to firmly tell him NO on a...
