Very nice stay, amazing host

Shinmpei was very kind and welcoming. Had lots of information regarding local restaurants and attractions. Place was spacious and clean. Property was located a short walk from the train station. Would absolutely stay again!

Amazing House

The house is very clean ,and the kichen is so good , I like the hand-made coffee pot. The owner of the house was very helpful and introduced us places of interesting. A mazing house! We will come back next year.

A wonderful place to stay in Kyoto

We stayed at My Pavilion to Arashiyama for a week in October 2019. Our family consists of my wife and I plus two daughters, 12 and 15. We spent a wonderful week in Kyoto and part of that was due to the great accommodation. Communication with Shimpei, the owner, was thorough and very useful, whether it was the emails we exchanged or the vast amount of information on his website. Shimpei was also there to greet us upon our arrival and pointed out some useful things, and explained the garbage collection system. The instructions in the house, for the washer, etc, were in Japanese and English and were very clear. The house was spacious, and we fully utilized the three large upstairs bedroom spaces so the girls had their own rooms. The kitchen was fully equipped, and we made a couple of dinners after a long day of sight-seeing. Our favorite space was the small tea-room next to the garden. We fought for the two seats in that space. The lounge area is also spacious and it was a house that we could relax in when the typhoon blew through Japan. The location was great, and it was an easy tram ride to Arashiyama, and a couple of minutes walk to the train and various bus stops. We also used the JapanTaxi app on several occasions. The house is close enough to the city that we walked for example, to the Manga Museum. There are also lots of supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, cafes and bars nearby. Also, the house is located in a really interesting neighbourhood, and the narrow streets are well worth exploring. It was a wonderful place to stay and we would stay there again if we visit Kyoto, and we will highly recommend it to friends who have families.

Hello Ian, thank you for leaving this great and informative review and VERY SORRY to have found this just now! It is so pity that the world has been changed dramatically since then and we are forced to be physically apart from each other. Now in Japan, domestic travelers resumed moving around a bit and I take a couple of them a month but do miss all those coming from outside. But now I do have more time, fortunately during this unhappiness, to make the house a bit cleaner and do a petit renovation so am looking forward to the next chance to welcome your family. Great stay in Kyoto

This was one of the best places we stayed in all of Japan. Shimpei thought of everything one might need. His amenities rivaled some of the nice ryokans we stayed in! The washer/dryer was awesome and the tea room was a nice place to drink coffee in the morning. We enjoyed the area of town - outside the tourist areas but still lots to do. We recommend the Thai restaurant nearby and the Ouch & Oops bar for drinks after.

unforgettable airbnb stay in Kyoto

I am writing my very first review on trip advisor because I would love to share about how great of an experience me, my husband and two kids had at Shimpei's amazing airbnb. Let me start out by commenting on how impressed we were with our host. Shimpei was truly the best airbnb host we have ever had! From the moment I came across his listing on airbnb, to when we booked, up until the day we left, he always went above and beyond!! He was super patient with ALL my inquires about his listing as well as my questions about travel tips --- he always replied super promptly and gave detailed info and advice. Being our first time to kyoto we had sooo many questions and uncertainties. He always made me feel at ease to ask him questions. On the day of arrival he met us at his place and kindly took us around his neighborhood to show us around which was such a nice treat. He was just as patient in person as he was when we communicated via messages prior. He felt more like a friend to us than a host even though we just met him for the first time! As for his place -- we loved every bit of it! it was in a traditional home but decorated very stylish with lots of personal touch (including music playing in the background when we arrived). It was also super clean and had all the amenities we needed. The bed was so comfortable too (our bed at home now feels so much more uncomfortable after having experienced his airbnb bed!!!) His airbnb was also very conveniently located. We LOVED having the subway station and tram station within 5 minutes walking distance as well as two supermarkets within 2 minutes walking distance. Given the convenient location of the supermarket as well as well equipped kitchen, we even had the chance to cook a very nice wagyu beef meal dinner at the airbnb! If I could, I would recommend all my friends who want to go to Kyoto to stay at his lovely place.. not only because of the lovely home, the convenient location, but most importantly, the warmth and kindness we experienced from Shimpei!!

Thank you Miriam for the stay AND spending time to write such a detailed and informative comments which should definitely be beneficial to my future guests! Yes, I also didn't feel like we met for the first time but rather felt meeting a friend I had known already. I sometimes felt like this after talking about several topics over months with guests. I enjoyed all prior conversations with you and thought the questions are all useful for me to understand the concerns of those traveling with kids, which in turn I can better serve similar guests in the future. I know that there should be so many questions as I too wanted to ask many when I planned travelling abroad in my life (but there was nobody at the time without AirBnB...). Glad to learn you like the bed - I spent one month for research and end up with the mix of mattress. Looking forward to see your family or your friends sometime in the near future. Didn't know that you cooked wagyu from the supermarket by yourself in the kitchen, great idea to enjoy the beef of the same quality as in restaurants with less budget! Shimpei

不可多得的京都民宿

這是一間非常難得的房源,交通非常方便,地理位置很好找,難得一見的樓中樓配置,古色古香又不失現代,乾淨、設備齊全,庭院非常美麗,廚房bar台配置合宜,適合多人進駐、聚會的房源。房東非常細心,會主動關心旅客,回復非常迅速,途中有為朋友在期間遺失手機在計程車上,房東也樂於協助,對於房源細節描述詳細,旅遊、美食建議齊全多樣,就算沒有準備行程也能依照房東推薦當天決定。總結,不住可惜!!!!

京都赏樱赏枫家庭游首选

带着老人和小孩一共6人的家庭去京都赏枫，很幸运找到Shimpei的二层小别墅。离地铁站只有3分钟，很安静的社区，出门就有二个超市，妈妈买食材回来在一应俱全的厨房里开心得都不想出去了。附近晚上有很多食肆，街口的公交车站路线很多很方便。二楼二个房间，走道上可以临时隔出来一个卧室，加上楼下厅里也可以临时铺的榻榻米，容纳一个大家庭不成问题。家电都是最新的型号，房子前后都有小院子，还有独立的阅读室/太阳房，十分舒服。主人Shimpei很热情，住在附近，有什么事随时能来，人超好。已经约好下次去京都看樱花还住他那里。强力推荐！

Thank you for the stay and the detail description of the house, which must be very helpful for my future guests! It was convenient for me too when I lived here to prepare the house that there two supermarkets a block away and the subway station is within a three minute walk. Large families as yours are one of the primary type of guests that I would like to serve. I am now investing a bit more to the house (bamboo forest on the wood deck and paper lanterns on the second floor) so please revisit my sites! Looking forward to seeing you at the cherry blossom season! p.s. My next door is also a similar guesthouse (民宿) and is my friend so the two combined can accommodate even a larger group of up to 12 persons!

A stunning cozy house

A stunning cozy house! Very convenient of transport-1500JPY from Kyotostation and 4 mins walking distance from Shiin station. The house is very comfortable, 2 clean bedrooms with comfy mattresses, big wash room and open kitchen- the stove and microwave are very easy to use and Shimpei San prepared a lot of bowels and cups for use. Also the living room is very warm with heater and cozy with blankets. Very thoughtful for everything! Shimpei San welcomed us at home warmly and explained the house using instructions for us, also recommend the metro to shopping center and sightseeings. Highly recommend to those family and friends who travel to Kyoto!

Thank you Ruby for the stay and the review. Yes, it would be cheaper and more convenient to take a taxi from Kyoto station (13 min, 1300-1500 yen) if you have three or four persons. Glad to learn that you fully utilized what the house can offer (big kitchen, etc.). Since last March, Saiin station (阪急西院駅) opened two new exits closer to the house, so now you'll be Kawaramachi 河原町/ Gion 祇園 area within 15 min door to door. Looking forward to your next visit! 在日本住得最舒心的就是这间京都的townhouse，六星级推荐

是带着公公婆婆一起的旅行，所以选房子的时候很是费了一番心思，预订的时候本来是有一点忐忑的，因为去年10月份预定的时候这个房子还没有人住过没评价，但是房东其他房子都口碑很好，而且岛型厨房也实在是太迷人，于是就下手啦!Surprise~~房子非常非常非常超出我的预期,质感超级好,装修的原木,水暖,黄铜的五金件,非常赞的烘干洗衣机都是按照自住标准来的,,岛形厨房无敌了,以后换房子就要照着这个装修!房东的照片拍得太朴实了,实物质感更好~~厨房和茶室都是我的最爱,天窗采光也别有洞天。房东提供了一键叫出租车来家门口的专用手机,方便我们听不懂日文的人士用,超级方便~~还有一个小手机配了bose的小音箱,播放房东挑选的音乐,品味很好,整个房子营造氛围一级棒,房东人细心,耐心,东京大学的学霸一枚,是在日本遇到的英文最好的人~做事情也是考虑周到,六星级好房东~~

Perfect place to explore Kyoto

On arrival, the host offered to pick us up at the station. But, since we have been to Kyoto before, we declined and met him instead at the house. He was most welcoming and explained all the amenities thoroughly. He also bought tickets to a festival we requested in advance and paid him when we got there. A risk for him so it was an act of great kindness for us. The house, aside from being very comfortable and complete, also had so many nice extras. Shimpei-san filled the refrigerator with many things that would make it possible for us to have a good breakfast the next day without having to blunder through the grocery. Basic spices, cooking oil, bath amenities, towels, and many other little things made our stay most comfortable. All switches and controls for stove, lights, bathroom, AC, etc had english labels affixed alongside the Nippongo. We also had a pocket wifi and a local cellphone to take along. Location was also very convenient. Two groceries were nearby, and two train stations and a bus station are just a quick walk away. Shimpei's house is the perfect base for exploring Kyoto. Everywhere is quick to get to, even Osaka. Chilling out is also ideal. I found myself frequently in the tea room, facing a little garden, reading a book, and enjoying a pocket of serenity. Great location, house with character, and Shimpei's attention to detail at making our touring easy and our stay comfortable make this house a perfect place to stay in in Kyoto.

Thank you Geodino-san for being the second guest of this house and the detail illustration of the house and the location. Although the area itself is not a major scenic spot, I found the two stations (Hankyu Saiin 阪急西院 and Randen Sai 嵐電西院 and a couple of bus stops within three minute walk will give tourists a great and direct footwork to multiple scenic spots such as Golden Pavilion 金閣寺, Gion 祇園, and Aarashiyama 嵐山. It was also fun to keep communicating via email after the check in during the stay (and to meet you all again back in April). Looking forward to your next visit! Shimpei
