We can not praise Treffynnon enough. It is spacious, warm, dry, well equip and yet not short of character. We all slept well, the adults due to the comfortable beds and the children following the excitement of settling in their loft room. We also enjoyed cooking on the Aga and I was pleasantly surprised to find the kitchen was so...

The house is away from the bustle of Newport, but close enough if we need anything. Steve and Martina, are warm and generous hosts, and seem to have thought of everything to...

About the neighbourhood
From the gate at Treffynnon you walk straight out on to the fabled Preseli Mountains where the bluestones at Stonehenge are believed to have come from. The iron age fort of Carn Ffoi is only a few hudred yards away and is loved by kids of all ages. From here, on a clear day, you can see the mountains of the Lleyn Peninsular in North Wales and the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland.

Treffynnon is a mile from the town of Newport, which has a good selection of shops, cafés and pubs. Parrog Beach beach is in walking distance, while the larger beach of Traeth Mawr (literally Big Beach but generally known as Newport Sands or The Beach) is a 10 minute drive, although walking enthusiasts can easily reach it by walking along the estuary at low tide.

Further afield... more

Directions to Treffynnon

We suggest you have a look at an old-fashioned map or road atlas before setting out, as reliance on SatNav in this area is problematic! If you are coming from the east along the M4/A48/A40 just head for Carmarthen and then towards Haverfordwest.

Locals all have their preferred route to and from Carmarthen and will argue that their’s is best and shaves seconds of the journey!

SatNavs will come up with an array of different routes from Carmarthen, most of which are not to be trusted! They will take you longer and you will have adventures that you probably don’t want at the end of a long journey.

So from Carmarthen take the A40 towards Haverfordwest. When you get to the Penblewin roundabout take the third exit, A478, towards Cardigan. When you get to Crymych t...
