Setting
This charming house is nestled in two acres of land with oak woodland to the rear and open meadow in front stretching down towards the river.
The 12m x 4m heated swimming pool is set in its own large sun terrace, with a wonderful view of the Chateau. The pool is bathed in sunshine from mid-morning until sundown.
For dining al fresco, there are two terraces - one by the pool, benefiting from lovely dappled shade; the other a covered terrace to the rear of the house, ideal for eating or simply relaxing in the shade. Both enjoy beautiful views over the countryside.
Le Chause Haut really is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy your holiday with family or friends.
The owners live in the cottage next door so are just a few minutes away should you require any advice or assistance.
Surroundings
The house overlooks the beautiful Vézère Valley, and sits at the end of a private drive which winds gently up from the river. The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurant and bar, is less than a mile away.
The charming market town of Montignac and the famous Lascaux caves are just a ten minute drive to the north, and the pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe a ten minute drive to the South.
You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval town of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house.
Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War.
The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding.
There are also many attractions such as an aquarium, a treetop adventure park and a heritage theme park. To name them all would need a book - the list is endless....!
Those looking to experience the gastronomic delights of the region will find a nearby market on every day of the week offering the very best that local producers have to offer. There are many opportunities to sample the fine foods and wine that this area is famous for - confit de canard, foie gras, gateau noix, regional cheeses and Bergerac wines to name but a few. There is an abundance of local restaurants to suit every taste and budget, ranging from riverside cafés to haute cuisine.
PLEASE NOTE : The pool is available for use from May to September, and will be heated throughout this period.

Fantastic holiday home that has everything that you could possibly want and more. The house looks small from the outside but it really isn’t. We were a family of three generations and there was more than enough room.
The gardens and grounds are lovely. All around the house there are different tables and chairs so whether you like sunshine, shade, company or solitude everyone is catered for. The pool is gorgeous surrounded by gardens and the view across the valley to the river and chateau is stunning.
The location is perfect with lots of restaurants and things to do all within a short drive.
David and Lorraine are perfect hosts. They live next door so are on hand if you need anything but leave you alone otherwise. We were staying at the time of the recent heatwave and they immediately went out and bought extra fans to try and keep us all cool.
Hopefully we will return!!

Wonderful gite and superb hosts.
I am almost reluctant to leave this review as I would like to keep this a secret!! We stayed at Le Chause Haut for three weeks and the holiday was wonderful. We have stayed in many gîtes and this was by far and away the best. The house is immaculately clean with quality bedding and towels and is extremely comfortable with a very well-equipped kitchen, in fact a home away from home. Importantly for us was the downstairs en-suite bedroom for our daughter who has mobility issues and this was perfect for her. The bathrooms are modern and tasteful with powerful showers. The pool is the biggest we have seen in a French gîte and is in a beautiful location with stunning views over the valley. There are umpteen seating areas around the property and it always possible to find sun or shade as required. Lorraine and Dave are great hosts, enthusiastic and informative about the region; they are always available for advice but are unintrusive. There were many thoughtful touches, including a bottle of wine on arrival and some home-grown tomatoes and figs from the garden. The location of the property is quiet and rural but only a couple of minutes drive to the nearest village and approximately seven minutes to a large supermarket and pharmacy. It is the best of both worlds; in the beautiful Vézère countryside but close to facilities and attractions such as Lascaux. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and thank Lorraine and Dave for their wonderful hospitality. We hope to return very soon indeed.

Wonderful Gite with fantastic amenities, peaceful yet close to restaurants. Perfection!!!!!!
Everything about this property is fantastic. Beautiful location with the most wonderful views. The gite has 4 bedrooms all of which are lovely with comfortable beds and nice bedlinen. Everything was immaculately clean on our arrival with modern facilities. Bathrooms had great showers and were clean and modern. The gite was lovely and cool inside even on a scorching hot summer day. Pool and outside areas absolutely gorgeous, the pictures do not do it justice.
A couple of good restaurants are within a 15/20 min walk or 2 min drive away.
Owners Dave and Lorraine were efficient with the booking process and extremely helpful. They were available if we needed any advice on things to do and were gracious and welcoming . I only wish every time we went away we were greeted and made to feel as welcome as they made us both feel. One of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying and we will be back soon.

SUPERB!
This property ticks ALL the boxes! Very well appointed, great position high above the Vezere river overlooking a chateau. Close to many caves and prehistoric attractions. Lovely local villages with great restaurants and bars. Vides and Brocants abound!
David and Lorraine are the perfect hosts with helpful advice if needed.
The heated pool situated on a terrace above the property is probably the nicest we have come across in many years. WIFI and Sky also nice to have!
There are at least three outside places to sit and eat plus a big table in the kitchen. It will take some beating! Lovely, lovely, lovely!

About the neighbourhood
In the 'Golden Triangle' of the Perigord Noir in the Dordogne, the property is a ten minute stroll from the village, with restaurants and a well-stocked shop. A large, modern supermarket is only a five minute drive away, and the town of Montignac is 5 minutes further up the road. Here you will find excellent bakeries offering fantastic fresh breads and mouthwatering pastries, banks, a newsagents selling British papers, pharmacies, a post office and numerous bars and restaurants, where you can sit outside, enjoying a coffee or a beer on the banks of the River Vézère. There is a twice-weekly market, selling free range duck and organic vegetables and locally produced cheeses and wines. In the surrounding area you will find a huge variety of things to see and do. You can visit one of the many caves, the most famous being Lascaux, or canoe down the Vézère (offering you a different view of the Chateau Balcayre as you literally pass underneath it!) or take a boat trip or a canoe on the Dordogne and experience some really breathtaking scenery. Wine lovers can visit any number of the local vineyards to enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting. There are so many great local restaurants for you to sample some of the world's best food. Or just take a walk along the banks of the beautiful Vézère and enjoy the gorgeuos views and stunning scenery.
