'Amazingly well-equipped cottage and so clean!'

'A good base for visiting our favourite bird watching places, very comfortable and extremely well equipped.'

Greylag Cottage is located on Freeman Street, just a short walk from Wells Quay and the centre of town with all that it has to offer. Greylag is a traditional Grade II listed flint cottage dating back to 1825 and has been recently refurbished to a high standard throughout. It offers the traditional with the benefit of mod cons that we just can't do without. It's the perfect base to explore all that beautiful North Norfolk has to offer.

'We had a very warm welcome and enjoyed our time in the 'Dolls House'! We had everything we needed.'

Interaction with guests
I am based in London so won't be at the property to welcome you. However, I provide full details of all you need to know before your arrival, including how to get the keys, comprehensive information about the cottage and the local area, tourist information, location map and details of parking. I have a lovely local lady who looks after the cottage for me in Wells who is always on hand. I also have a list of numbers to contact for all eventualities e.g. hospitals, plumbers etc. I am always at the end of the phone or on email.

Had a lovely week's holiday in this quaint cottage! Was very well equipped, and had some lovely touches, like some milk in the fridge, when you arrived, and a tray laid out with coffee, tea, chocolates and biscuits! Was ideally located on the main road,...More

We stayed in Greylag Cottage for a week with my elderly Father. The cottage was the perfect place to stay, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The milk, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits were a welcome sight on arrival. The garden was beautiful and...More

About the neighbourhood
Wells-next-the-Sea and its surrounds
The name Wells comes from Guella, half Latinised from Anglian Wella, a spring. This derives from spring wells of which Wells used to have many, rising through the chalk of the area. The town started to be known as Wells-next-the-Sea in the early 19th century to distinguish it from other places of the same name. When the Wells and Fakenham Railway was opened on 1 December 1857, the terminus was given the name of 'Wells-on-Sea'. In 1956 the Wells Urban District Council voted to re-adopt the name Wells-next-the-Sea, and this has been the official name since then.

Wells is situated on the North Norfolk coast which runs for some thirty miles from Hunstanton to Cromer. The North Sea is now a mile from the town, as a result of the silting of the h...
