Fabulously clean modern accommodation just 5 miles from Lyme regis centre. The retreat is immaculately equipped with everything you could possibly need, the owner has thought of everything from hi viz jackets/ torch to keep you safe walking down the lanes at night, to an illuminated toilet bowl for the night time visit! Even had a welcome cream scone provided! A bonus having the hot tub too. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting the area. Great communication with the owner ( we booked direct) and reasonable price too.

A Perfect Retreat
The Retreat at Hedgehog Corner is the most exquisite place to stay to access the beautiful Jurassic coast. A bold statement and yet utterly true. The spacious self contained ‘cottage’ offers everything you’ll need for a self catering relaxing break. The hot tub is a real coup as is the private enclosed garden. Joy has gone to extraordinary lengths to think of everything you could possibly need. She is always on hand to help but is never going to impose upon your stay. She is a warm and the most loveliest host. The Retreat is, simply put, a tranquil haven to escape from life’s stresses.

Perfect hideaway in a great location.
The retreat is an absolute gem,; warm and cosy with everything you need for a relaxing break. Completely private with it's own hot tub and beautifully decorated to a high standard. The location is a short drive to a vast range of towns, beaches, restaurants and attractions. The owner (Joy) was friendly and available if needed and made us feel very welcome. We made use of the 7kw vehicle charger, which was a bonus. We cannot wait to return.

Amazing!
What a fabulous lady Joy is! Joy has thought of and provided everything that makes for a perfect getaway. We stayed in the Retreat, which was so peaceful as it is in its own private garden. The hot tub was just the right temperature and we used it at least once each day, even when it was raining. We had the most relaxing week we’ve ever had on holiday. Joy recommended places that we could go for food and they did not disappoint. We will definitely book again.

Perfect romantic getaway

Fantastic place to stay for Lyme Regis
We really loved our stay at Hedgehog Retreat and found it the perfect location for exploring Lyme Regis and the surrounding area. The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well equipped with everything you could need. It was actually bigger than we thought from the photos and has plenty of space for two people. The hot tub is a real bonus and again really clean and nice and secluded. We’ll definitely be coming back in the future and would highly recommend.

Great place to relax
Great place with everything you could ever need, facilities amazing including a lovely shower and very comfy bed. Hot tub to relax in after a day of exploring the Jurassic coast. Couldn’t have wished for a better host. Would definitely visit again.

Amazing Stay
Me and my partner stayed at The Retreat with hot tub at Hedgehog corner and I can’t give enough praise to how beautiful, well kept and clean it was. Bed was comfortable and large, everything is provided, so much more than I’ve had anywhere else. Towels for hot tub and showering, tea, coffee, biscuits, cleaning equipment, soap, shower gel, slippers, robes, the list is endless. It’s completely private, not overlooked. In the evenings we were in the hot tub and could see the stars when the lights went off which we loved. The hot tub was always hot and exceptionally clean. Joy was welcoming, friendly and gave us great advice as to where to visit locally. Millers farm shop - wow!!! Pay it a visit early, they have produce brought over from France and it is incredible! We will definitely be back. Thanks again for a lovely getaway.

Yes, the local farm shop Millers, just a mile up the road, has a fantastic range of locally sourced and French produce. I’m delighted you went there. 3rd visit as good as the 1st
This was our 3rd visit to the Retreat and every bit as enjoyable as our first.
The standard and quality of the furnishings is very high and the place was spotlessly clean as always.
Like another reviewer said, the pillows and duvet are so so comfy.
Everything from dishwasher tabs to kitchen foil is provided and this time we were blessed with good weather so made use of the cool box.
Relaxing in the hot tub after a day out is lovely and towels and flip flops are provided.
There is a lovely big shower with good water pressure and plenty of towels provided including proper bath sheets (can't beat a proper size towel!!)
It is lovely and quiet and you are not overlooked or disturbed by anyone.
We ate at Hunters Lodge Inn twice and meals were good both times. We would recommend booking as it was busy. It's less than a 5 minute walk up the road and we used the hi viz jackets provided walking back just to be on the safe side.
We also got a take away from Cinnamons and it was delivered right to the door and was delicious.
Joy provides excellent information prior to your stay so you know exactly what's what. In these strange times, it was good to feel safe and know that Joy had done everything to make our stay COVID safe.
We will definitely return again.

Lovely time at Hedgehog corner
Stayed at the retreat which was immaculate. Hot tub was a great extra which we made full use of. This may sound odd but the duvet and the pillows were the most snuggly I’ve ever slept in. So nice when on one morning it was torrential rain, what better excuse to do absolutely nothing! However the cottage is so handy for Lyme Regis and surrounding areas that there are so many walks with spectacular scenery around. Absolutely recommend.

On our doorstep is the sea side town of Lyme Regis is famous for fossil hunting. Experts take out fossil hunting walks from Lyme Regis and nearby Charmouth. Pretty beach huts on the historic Monmouth Beach at Lyme and an area of sandy beach by the historic Cobb. You can while away the hours in the old town of Lyme with its Mill and enchanting back streets full of fascinating shops including the Micro Brewery a to the art Galleries. Lyme Regis is the perfect place for a family holiday. 3 minutes drive away and TV chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's River Cottage for meals and events is just 3 minutes drive. At nearby Burton Bradstock a glorious beach with well known The Hive Beach Cafe.Lots to see and do for children several nearby seaside towns, the Dinosaur Museum, Beer Caves, Peco Sidmouth Donkey Sanctury and Seaton Tram are just an example of the nearby local attractions. Plenty of holiday information at the property. Joy, your Host is a true local and font of information.A congenial climate all year round and a great place for visiting with plenty to see and do all year around.

Train station 5 minutes driive to Axminster links to city of Exeter (40 minutes on train) London 2.45 hours away. Bus at station, Book taxi: Terry’s Taxi Uplyme, Matt’s Cabs Lyme Regis, Axminster Taxis.
Planes: Exeter Airport is 45 minutes drive.

How to get there
The Retreat Cottage is easily located and has its own well signed car parking space on the far left of the main car park. Any queries then please get in touch. Just 2.3 miles from Lyme Regis. Just over 1.6 miles from TVs River Cottage HQ. 3 hours drive from London.Hourly train service from London Waterloo to Axminster and then a 5 minute taxi ride or local bus X51 drops at pub at top of road. 2.5 miles from Axminster Train Station with a Bus Stop within walking distance (Number X51 or X53 from Axminster Train Station and Lyme Regis). No pavement between the property and pub or bus stop - we provide 2 luminous jackets for walk to pub. Exeter Airport 45 minutes drive - local taxi service can collect - Av to Go or Go Eco Lyme Regis, Causley Cabs or Axminster Taxis. Although a car is not necessary as we are just a short distance from both the Axminster Railway Station and local bus stop, it is recommended.
