Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Lovely property, pretty village, delightful area
This was a very well-equipped and maintained dog-friendly property. We were a party of 2, but 4 would be equally comfortable with the 2 king-size ensuite bedrooms. The upstairs living room had lovely views over the village green, and out to the fells. The walks locally were extensive, taking in 2 local pubs if required. A bit further was Jervaulx Abbey, Leyburn (The Shawl), and Aysgarth Falls. We visited in the school holidays, and were amazed how quiet the area was generally, away from the main tourist towns.

Good substitute for Sicily
We are 2 couples. 2 of us live in central Scotland, the other 2 in South East England. We had planned to meet up in a villa in Sicily. With the covid pandemic going on that was out of the question. So, we decided to meet half(ish) way for a few days. The Old Chapel was perfect for us to meet up. 2 identical en suite bedrooms on the ground floor. A large, open plan ,cooking, dining and living area. The kitchen is very well equipped and , unusually for self catering properties, had excellent cooks knives. The Old Chapel is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. Not the holiday we were planning but a good substitute for Sicily.

Not quite there yet!
After some deliberation we have decided to write a review but must stress this is to be seen as constructive. This was booked as A valentines weekend away but unfortunately started badly as we were greeted by what can only be described as an infestation of flies both dead and alive on all of the windows upstairs so we spent the first hour cleaning. There were dead flies under all the curtains, on the rugs, on the sofa and in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and unfortunately the tables and chairs were dusty and there were crumbs on the table and chairs which we had to clean up. I must stress that In no way can Georgina be responsible for the flies however ownership and responsibility for the cleanliness of the property must be taken more seriously before letting. Georgina was really apologetic and did say that she had cleared the flies at 1pm that day - a phone call or text from her to let us know the situation before arrival would have been nice! Unfortunately the only option when we got there was to not stay but we had driven 2 hours to get there and had spent an hour cleaning. Georgina assured us they were cluster flies and held no risk to our health and came in the following day to clean up the flies again! Positives:- beautifully decorated, comfy bed, lovely big bath, log burner, carton of milk left, great location, lovely local pub, great walks, ideal location. Other points just on the details: there was no hand soap, no toilet roll, No logs inside, also no kindling, heating went off - couldn’t find instructions on how to turn it back on.

Amazing property - didn’t want to leave!
We stayed for four nights at this amazing property. When we arrived although we had looked at the photo gallery on the website, we were blown away by the Old Chapel in ‘real life’. The conversion is tastefully designed and is of very high spec. We loved the views from the beautiful windows of the village. The property has a very well equipped kitchen and the bedrooms have lovely linen and luxury toiletries. Usually when we book self-catering properties we go out to eat in the evening but we loved The Old Chapel so much that we stayed in every evening and cooked so we could enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The owner has prepared a very useful file with suggestions of places to visit, where to buy groceries etc which we found very useful. Thank you for making our trip to the Yorkshire Dales such an enjoyable time. We wished we could have stayed for ever!

We felt so lucky to discover this absolute gem.... down to every last detail!
We have just spent a very special time at this newly converted, beautiful Chapel. As you arrive in East Witton you know it is going to be special, it is stunning , with a green running the length of the entire village and the Chapel sitting in pride of place on one side of the green. The Chapel has been done up to the highest spec, huge bathrooms, very comfortable beds, made even better by pristine white linen. The kitchen is full of everything you need, coffee machine, frothy milk if you want it, lovely big mugs to sip your tea and coffee from, looking out of the amazing windows while you do so. We arrived to find fresh flowers and homemade cake awaiting us. If you want any shopping to be delivered, Georgina will arrange that for you, we will certainly be making the most of this service next time we stay. To cap it off there was an honesty bar, we found three different types of gin, fever tree tonic, limes, ice in the freezer……our holiday started straight away, what a great touch.

So stylish and comfy !
I recently stayed at The Old Chapel - it was one of the comfiest, most stylish and enjoyable few days I have ever had. Such a beautiful position and lots of things to do near by - great pubs, walks, beautiful countryside. Georgina the host was wonderful and helped us with everything we needed. Always on hand to help. Such comfy beds. I can't wait to come again...

Truly unique and stylish luxury bolt hole in the heart of one of North Yorkshire’s most picturesque villages.
From the minute we arrived and kicked our shoes off, we felt the calm atmosphere of this incredible old chapel wash over us. After a long walk with the dogs along a winding lane, we sat with a chilled glass of wine, tucked into a delicious supper, then relaxed in comfort by the roaring wood burning stove. We are very fussy about our beds and bedding...but this was like sleeping on a cloud! Plenty of hot water in the huge powerful walk-in showers and enormous baths topped off with White Company gels and lotions...Heavenly! Woke up to a full English breakfast and fresh coffee (all pre-ordered through the charming host), wished we could have stayed for a week. Beautiful windows with stained glass detail overlooking a picturesque village green, stunning views from them all. Boutique luxury in the heart of the Dales!
