Wake up to this stunning view, relax and put your feet up, and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea sitting outside our traditional cottage gazing at the fishing boats bobbing about in the beck, or out to sea. No need to go anywhere. Regularly stayed in and painted by artists, this 18th Century former fisherman's cottage at 4 Cowbar Bank is quaint and cosy, and ideal for a romantic getaway or walking holiday. The cottage is in the middle of the three Fishermen's Cottages, with blue windows and a front terrace with a seat - and now a new lawn! More recently, our cottage has become celebrated as 'Old Jack's' - home to the main character (played by Bernard Cribbins) in the BBC's popular children's series Old Jack's Boat on CBeebies. The cottage sleeps 2 in a pretty double bedroom on the first floor with a shower room. The comfortable beamed sitting room has an open fire, wi-fi and BT TV + DVD/CD player. We have a thoughtfully-stocked bookshelf with guides, novels and dvds to keep you entertained. The cottage was built in the days when fishermen lived, cooked, sat and dried off all in the same room. Today there is a small kitchen but it's perfectly equipped with (the latest model) Baby Belling cooker, hob and grill. There's also a microwave. There are saucepans, frying pans, all the utensils you need, and also microwave dishes. It's too small to swing a cat but if you use the dining table for preparation, perfectly fine to cook everything from veggie feasts, to fish suppers, to roast dinners. The closest it comes to a fitted kitchen is that we've managed to fit it in the space! They made do with very little in the 18th Century. What's included in the price? *Parking for one car directly outside (saving £35 a week on the public car park) *Full bedlinen and towels/tea towels *Initial supply of handwash, washing-up liquid, dishcloth and sponge, loo roll, loo cleaner, bin liner, cling film and tin foil *Wi-fi *heating via radiators which pump out the warm *use of washing machine and dryer in the shed outside cottage No5 - it ain't the most salubrious spot but very useful if you need them! *coal and logs are not provided but we do offer a fire starter pack which includes firelighters, kindling and logs. Order when you book, costs £5 *For hygiene reasons, we do not provide any food or drink. **Our cottage generally sleeps 2 but given the excitement generated by Old Jack's Boat and the wonder we see in the eyes of Old Jack's fans as they walk up the bank to see if he's in, we have changed our policy to allow one small child to stay too (the cottage is tiny) but you'll need to bring your own bed. Interaction with guests
Our housekeepers will clean the cottage just before your arrival and leave the door open, with the key inside on the table - that way you can relax the minute you arrive. They live two minutes away across the footbridge and are always on hand if you need anything, day or night. They may well pop across to make sure everything is to your satisfaction but mostly will leave to in peace to enjoy your stay with no intrusion.

Lovely little cottage, cosy and comfortable and with parking right outside. Staithes has some great, dog friendly pubs and cafes and it’s a great base to explore the local area, cliff top walks and neighbouring bays and towns.

If you're after a cosy, genuine, unspoilt cottage in a fishing village, this is it. It's tiny yet perfectly formed - ideal for just the two of us - and is a combination of going through a timewarp to the 1960s for the decor, fireplace...More

About the neighbourhood
Staithes is a natural harbour where Roxby Beck meets the sea, surrounded by breathtaking coastal scenery. It's on the Cleveland Way with stunning walks either along the cliffs or inland. There's a sandy beach, a stony shore and piers for fishing. Visiting Staithes is like stepping back in time. Picturesque, higgledy-piggledy cottages with red pantiled roofs are grouped around tiny yards, up steps, down winding cobbled streets or through a maze of alleyways - and clearly steeped in history. There's not much that hasn't sprung from the sea and fishing - even the houses are named after boats - Blue Jacket House, Star of Hope Cottage, Mizpah Cottage, Confidence Cottage, Unity House and Wavelet.
How to get there
A car is best for exploring the whole area;, however it is possible to arrive at Saltburn station and get a taxi down to Staithes. There are buses to Whitby and, of course, the walks along the Cleveland way.
