Interaction with guests
Our housekeepers will clean the cottage just before your arrival and leave the door open, with the key just inside on the table - that way you can relax the minute you arrive after your journey. They live two minutes away across the footbridge and are always on hand if you need anything, day or night. They may well pop across to make sure everything is to your satisfaction but mostly will leave to in peace to enjoy your sty with no intrusion.

Another lovely stay in this delightful cottage. Enjoyed the views from the bench everyday. Cottage very comfortable and everything you required in the kitchen. Staithes a lovely unique place with nice walks. The addition of the newly laid grass made it feel like a small garden. Will definately be back - can't wait for our next visit.

Management response:

SO pleased you liked the grass. We were hoping it would feel like an extra room. Yes it is wonderful to wake up to such a marvellous view and the knowing that you don't actually have to go anywhere - except wander outside the door with your coffee - to enjoy the seascape is the most relaxing thing of all.

We had a lovely stay in this cottage to celebrate my birthday weekend. The cottage was lovely, cosy, the cooking facilities were excellent, we bought some steaks from the butchers and Keith the housekeeper helped us out with a couple of steak knives which was very kind. The dogs also had a lovely time, loads of nice places to walk...

Great homely cottage, neat and tidy. Beautiful views overlooking Staithes. Able to park outside a big bonus. Doggy friendly holiday let.

Management response:

Our Manchester terrier loves staying at the cottage - it's close to great walks and he enjoys watching the world go by. He can be outside without us having to actually take him out. Delighted you and your dog enjoyed it - do come again.

The ceilings are beamed and low in the cottage and we would advise anyone over 6 feet to book our cottage next door instead - apart from ceiling height, it's pretty much the same...

About the neighbourhood
And the Knights were not the only famous people to settle in Staithes. In the mid 1740's the village was home to explorer Captain James Cook who, whilst working in a shop on the front at Staithes, first fell in love with the sea - 'There he worked all day in an atmosphere of haberdashery and groceries, slept under the counter at night, and in his scant free time listened to the tales of sailormen down by the tiny harbour, or outside the pub Cod and Lobster (Guy Pocock 1941).

Staithes today
These days, famous faces in the village are more likely to be in casts of the variety of films and television dramas which use Staithes as their setting.
