The contemporary design has been finished to an exceptional standard providing a place for relaxation and tranquil contemplation or active family holidays. The Lighthouse was selected as the only UK finalist in the prestigious European Holiday Home Awards 2021 in the category Best Beach House Holiday Home. The house is pleased to hold certification under the international Safe Travels scheme and has recently received a Green Tourism Bronze Award. Set in a superb natural landscape, the house nonetheless provides every modern convenience, with excellent wifi, Miele appliances, underfloor heating and double glazing throughout. Furnishings have been carefully sourced from the best British designers with Anta hand-woven fabrics, tables and lighting by Tom Raffield and Tala and curtains made from Scottish linen. The house is clad in larch and Douglas fir and has a striking zinc roof. Inside, it responds to the fabric of the geography with a focus on the natural - stone, oak, linen, wool, sheepskin and leather accents. On the ground floor, the house has four well-appointed, comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en-suite and one a large shower room. There is a further spacious bathroom upstairs with a dramatic skylight over the bath and shower. The beautiful oak staircase was handmade. The heart of the house is the spectacular first floor open-plan living room with a large down-filled sofa, cosy sheepskin beanbags and a wood-burning stove. Huge windows overlook a south-facing balcony and large elevated dining deck (with teak table and chairs), so guests can enjoy the breathtaking views whatever the weather. The smart Italian kitchen, which will satisfy the demands of the most discerning cook, leads directly off the dining area of the living room. A beautiful oak-panelled study with satellite tv provides a perfect evening retreat, in warmth and comfort. The property is rented from a Friday to a Friday, with check out by 10am and no check in before 4pm. From the start of April through to the end of October, we only offer rentals of a minimum of seven nights duration. For the rest of the year we are happy to accept shorter rentals (a minimum stay of three nights). The Lighthouse has steep internal and external wooden staircases which end in stone floors and do not accommodate stairgates - for this reason it is not suitable for babies and very young children, so we are unable to accept bookings that include any children under the age of 5. Gairloch has been recognised as one of the loveliest place in Scotland for holidays since Queen Victoria's visit in 1877. The Lighthouse is set on the hillside overlooking the historic Gairloch pier with direct access onto the footpath leading to either the harbour, and its pub, restaurant and shop, or after a short walk over the headland to one of the most attractive white sand beaches in Wester Ross and the scenic golf course on the dunes. You really could park your car when you arrive and not need to drive again during your stay. Whether you seek a holiday focussed on beach and sea or walks in a wild landscape, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Lighthouse is equally suited to family holidays, a retreat from the modern world or highland adventures. Activities available locally include; golf, sea and fly fishing, pony trekking, walking, mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching, sailing and falconry. From the Lighthouse you can walk across to the Flowerdale estate and visit the arboretum or walk up to the dramatic Flowerdale waterfall and a short drive away are the famous gardens of Inverewe. Above all there are any number of beaches, paths and mountains to explore in some of Europe's most unspoilt country. Stunning
Wow. The Lighthouse is luxury. It is finished to an exceptionally high standard throughout the property and the views show off Scotland to its very best. We were a three generational family, visiting in October 2024, and all felt very much at home. Excellent pre-stay communication with the owner and Heidi, so the property can be prepared to your family requirements. There are not many other places where you can look out and see lots of wildlife including Deer, Eagles, Seals and the Northern Lights! Its a great base for exploring the surrounding area with some great walks, drives, restaurants and also the Badachro Distillery! We would definitely love to go back for another stay.

We are so pleased that the deer visited the garden during your stay (they view it as their own). We hoped the Lighthouse’s location would allow guests to enjoy the wildlife as much as the scenery and hope that the reference books on the shelves helped you identify the eagle you saw. We hope you will be inspired to return and explore some more

One of Scotland's Treasures
My family and I cannot give enough praises to The Lighthouse at Gairloch. We stayed there for a week in September. The house is impeccable, the setting one of the most tranquil we have been in. Every detail has been taken with care to make this a place you relax, enjoy and let time slow down. The upstairs living environment has absolutely everything you need. The kitchen the best equipped I have been in. The dining space with a gorgeous view of Gairloch Pier, where you can look down on a serene setting no matter what time of day or evening. Sunlight shines in the house through all of the lovely windows. When they say it is recognized as one of the loveliest places in Scotland it is absolutely true. The design of the home is award winning. The surrounding nature is beautiful. There are hikes and lochs and the sea to be explored nearby. The mountains surrounding Gairloch and Torridon are some of the most stunning in Scotland. We wish we could have stayed much longer. Camilla was extremely helpful and provided a wealth of information for us about the house and surrounding area. Heidi, who takes care of the house had everything ready for us, all you had to do was walk in and enjoy. She came to our rescues when our car battery died on the morning of our departure and went beyond what was necessary to help us on our way. This is a beautiful home, in a stunning setting. We highly recommend The Lighthouse - you will be thankful for every moment you spend here.

Beautiful house in beautiful Gairloch
We returned to this beautiful house in Gairloch for the 5th time and loved it as much as the first. The house is light and airy and beautifully appointed throughout from the extensive range of kitchenware to the high quality bedding. The housekeeper is easy to contact and very helpful as are the owners. The surroundings are perfect with views of the harbour and a short walk to beautiful Gairloch beach beside the golf course.

Our hope in offering the Lighthouse for rent, was to give other families the chance to explore the west coast and enjoy the same kind of holidays that generations of our family have loved. Thank you for doing just that and for so generously choosing to return to the Lighthouse each year. We hope it will become as important a place for your family as it has for ours.

Great house in an idyllic location.
We spent a lovely week at The Lighthouse for a family celebration. The setting is ideal and even on a miserable day, the views are lovely. Very typical west coast of Scotland. The house is furnished and equipped to a high standard and is very comfortable. The kitchen had all that we needed to cook great meals, enjoyed at the dining table. The path to the beach meant an easy way to go for a swim and also to come back for a hot shower afterwards! Easy access to many beaches and walks nearby. Such a wonderful part of the country. We all enjoyed our time here and it was ideal for seven adults. West coast luxury.

Thank you for giving the Lighthouse such a glowing review. It is lovely when families choose the house for a happy celebration - just what we designed it for. And we are so pleased you enjoyed the walk over the headland for a swim. We hope you will have more celebrations in future that will give you an excuse to return

Amazing family holiday
Me, my wife, 2 girls (7 and 4) and my parents have just returned from an amazing family weeks holiday at the lighthouse. We all agreed it was the best, well euipped accommodation we have ever stayed in with unbelievable views! The weather was quite mixed but to be honest the house is so comfortable and the views are so dramatic that watching the short 10 minute storm bursts roll into and through the bay from the cosy living room were quite fantastic! The corner swivel and tilt chair with foot rest next to the fire and Marshalls bluetooth speaker was a popular spot the adults seemed to fight over haha. We would have taken a trip on the whale boat or glass bottom boat had the weather permitted as they sounded great fun. There is nothing we wanted nor needed, the house has everything you could ever need. The interior is very high spec with all towels bedding and beautiful toiletries supplied. The bedding is very high quality we all slept very well. The children loved the tv room and bean bags, so much so that they now want their own for home haha. The 10/15 min walk down to the lovely beach is pleasant, there is a bench halfway that we found to be the best to catch sunsets. We even caught slight glimpses of the northern lights one evening during high activity! Gairloch beach is nice and really quiet. Its filled with shells which my girls loved searching through and picking thier favourites. We walked up to flowerdale waterfall which is nice, obviously stopping at the old inn for refreshment. We had a great day trip out to Melon Udrigle beach (worth the 40 min drive) and a day trip over to Skye taking in Eilean Donan Castle, the fairy pools and Talisker distillery. We had a fantastic meal at The Old Inn one evening and thoroughly recommend. Booking is advised, you can do it online. The cullen skink was incredible! We also ate at the badachro inn which is a great old pub with character and fantastic views from the decked area. A must for seafood lovers, serving creel caught langoustines among other catches fresh from the bay. The garlic chilli prawn starter the highlight. Cooking in the well equipped kitchen with a lovely window and view was great often seeing the neighbouring pheasants walking by. We did manage a Chinese take away from gairloch one evening which was really good quality! The friendly communications from the lovely owner Camilla was great and bursting with information. Communications with Heidi who deals with the change overs was also very good and the house was very clean and presented beautifully for us. All in all a great weeks holiday, in amazing accommodation, with unbelievable views and plenty to do locally should you wish. Thoroughly recommend! Thanks Camilla and Heidi The Wilsons

It is so kind of you to leave such a warm and generous review of your stay and your words have quite made our day. We take great pleasure in introducing other families to Gairloch and the surrounding area and, though we have no control over the weather, as you found, there is still much to explore and enjoy. We hope you may wish to return and will look forward to welcoming you back to the Lighthouse

Ausgezeichnete Lage für einen erholsamen Aufenthalt/Excellent location for a relaxing stay
The house is exceptionally well equipped and has everything you need in high quality. The view is incredible. The four bedrooms and three fully equipped bathrooms are another highlight. I can definitely recommend the house. What you should be aware of is that the Wi-Fi reception is limited and during our stay it offered a maximum of 7-8 Mbit downstream. That's not much if more than one person is online and streaming videos. The house is also quite sound-sensitive. If early risers are moving around in the living area, you can hear them in the bedrooms. E-car drivers should know that charging at the harbour is twice as expensive as charging at the recycling point.

A true lighthouse in many ways
The care provided by the hosts before and during the stay was exceptionally caring. We have hardly experienced a holiday home in which so much attention was paid to detail in the design and furnishings as in the Lighthouse. The w ay to the small harbor with a nice café and a good inn is short and the path to the beach alone is enchanting and worth the walk. We really enjoyed our time there.

We are so pleased that your family enjoyed your time at the Lighthouse. Our ambition when we rebuilt, designed and furnished the house was to create a place where other families and groups of friends could enjoy a perfect holiday in real comfort. Thank you for your very kind comments It gives us enormous pleasure to share the house with others and give them a chance to explore Gairloch. The aim of the detailed Information Booklet is to provide every guest with a full range of the opportunities so that they can make the most of their stay. We are delighted you found it helpful. Local knowledge allows us also to offer a unique insight and access to one-off events that might not be publicised and we were so pleased that you enjoyed watching the old ocean-going paddle steamer arrive for a rare visit to the harbour. It was a lovely glimpse into times past when all visitors to Gairloch arrived by sea. We hope you will return (by land or sea) soon

About the neighbourhood
The Lighthouse is on a headland facing south over the Gairloch towards the Torridon hills. The scenery is spectacular and unspoilt - very few other houses can be seen from the large windows in the living room. Gairloch is a relatively small highland town, which does get busier in the summer months, but is extremely quiet in the winter. There is, however, plenty to do in the area throughout the year and guests are provided with a detailed Information Pack with descriptions of beaches, walks and other local activities (and booking information where necessary.)
Getting around
From the Lighthouse, you can walk down to the busy Gairloch pier and watch the fishermen come and go. There is a small cafe, gallery and a useful shop at the pier. A short walk round the bay the local pub and restaurant sits by the old stone bridge. If you walk the other way over the headland you will arrive at the Gairloch beach and the nine hole golf course on the dunes. There are a good local butcher, a farm shop, a general store, a community and tourist information centre, cafes and restaurants, a bank and a garage about a mile way along the road in Gairloch centre.

How to get there
The Lighthouse is approximately five hours' drive north of Edinburgh. The nearest airport to the Lighthouse is in Inverness about 75 miles away (about an hour and a half by car.) Guests are advised to either rent a car or to bring their own, as local transport links are poor. The nearest train station is in Achnasheen 20 miles away but the bus service between Gairloch and other towns is infrequent. Once at the Lighthouse, you may not need to use your car again for the duration of your stay, though there are lovely beaches and walks a short drive away and the centre of Gairloch is worth a visit.
