Set in a superb natural landscape, the house nonetheless provides every modern convenience, with excellent wifi, Miele appliances, underfloor heating and double glazing throughout. Furnishings have been carefully sourced from the best British designers with Anta hand-woven fabrics, tables and lighting by Tom Raffield and Tala and curtains made from Scottish linen. The house is clad in larch and Douglas fir and has a striking zinc roof. Inside, it responds to the fabric of the geography with a focus on the natural - stone, oak, linen, wool, sheepskin and leather accents.
On the ground floor, the house has four well-appointed, comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en-suite and one a large shower room. There is a further spacious bathroom upstairs with a dramatic skylight over the bath and shower. The beautiful oak staircase was handmade. The heart of the house is the spectacular first floor open-plan living room with a large down-filled sofa, cosy sheepskin beanbags and a wood-burning stove. Huge windows overlook a south-facing balcony and large elevated dining deck (with teak table and chairs), so guests can enjoy the breathtaking views whatever the weather. The smart Italian kitchen, which will satisfy the demands of the most discerning cook, leads directly off the dining area of the living room. A beautiful oak-panelled study with satellite tv provides a perfect evening retreat, in warmth and comfort.
The property is rented from a Friday to a Friday, with check out by 10am and no check in before 4pm. From the start of April through to the end of October, we only offer rentals of a minimum of seven nights duration. For the rest of the year we are happy to accept shorter rentals (a minimum stay of three nights). The Lighthouse has steep internal and external wooden staircases which end in stone floors and do not accommodate stairgates - for this reason it is not suitable for babies and very young children, so we are unable to accept bookings that include any children under the age of 5.
Gairloch has been recognised as one of the loveliest place in Scotland for holidays since Queen Victoria's visit in 1877. The Lighthouse is set on the hillside overlooking the historic Gairloch pier with direct access onto the footpath leading to either the harbour, and its pub, restaurant and shop, or after a short walk over the headland to one of the most attractive white sand beaches in Wester Ross and the scenic golf course on the dunes. You really could park your car when you arrive and not need to drive again during your stay. Whether you seek a holiday focussed on beach and sea or walks in a wild landscape, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Lighthouse is equally suited to family holidays, a retreat from the modern world or highland adventures. Activities available locally include; golf, sea and fly fishing, pony trekking, walking, mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching, sailing and falconry. From the Lighthouse you can walk across to the Flowerdale estate and visit the arboretum or walk up to the dramatic Flowerdale waterfall and a short drive away are the famous gardens of Inverewe. Above all there are any number of beaches, paths and mountains to explore in some of Europe's most unspoilt country.

Interaction with guests: The house is owned by a family property company, which is run by William Gray Muir. The Lighthouse is managed by his wife Camilla and looked after by a local housekeeper. Contact details for her and for the owners are provided to guests upon confirmation of a booking. A detailed Information pack about the Lighthouse, activities and restaurants available locally is sent by email to guests with a copy of the rental agreement shortly after receipt of a confirmed booking. Arrival notes and directions to the property are sent to guests a couple of weeks in advance of their stay.

We had a wonderful week at The Lighthouse in Gairloch. It is a fantastically beautiful house, fully equipped, luxurious and with a beautiful view over the harbor and the surrounding hills. You can take beautiful walks in the area, visit a nice small museum, a garden and explore part of the NC500 by car.

Another great stay at The Lighthouse
We returned for our fourth stay in The Lighthouse at the beginning of August.
We love this house with it’s perfect location, beautiful airy living space and panoramic views of Gairloch harbour and the surrounding mountains.
The house is beautifully appointed with everything in immaculate condition.
The owners and housekeeper are easy to contact and very helpful.
We love this part of the country with it’s fantastic beaches and mountains and the lovely cafes in Gairloch.
This year we had a thrilling trip with Hebridean Whale Cruises - we saw dolphins, Minke whales, Humpback whales and a Finn whale. We also stopped a few metres from a Basking Shark- fantastic.

I am delighted that you enjoyed the whale watching trip. This year sightings were particularly good and I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Perfect week in the Highlands
We were able to relax and enjoy our week at the end of July 2023 at the Lighthouse in Gairloch. Camilla had organised everything in advance and Heidi had prepared the house perfectly. Nothing is missing, the welcome package with the most important groceries also contributes to a good start. The house is in top condition, nothing is missing, so the three of us felt at home from the first minute.
If something should happen during the stay or a question arises, Heidi is helpful within the shortest time.
We will remember the beautiful view of the sea and the mountains for a long time. We agree that we will gladly come back again in the future.
We can only warmly recommend the perfect overall package.

A House full of light and delight
This is a lighthouse in the literal sense: it is flooded with light thanks to great architecture, large window fronts and sophisticated interior lighting. The furnishings and equipment are excellent, nothing is missing, and the location couldn't be better: You can be on the water and the mountains, at the Gairloch Museum or the Inverewe Garden in no time. We are a family with three teenage daughters, all with slightly different interests, and all five of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Special break in a fantastic house
We spent a fantastic week staying in the Lighhouse, what a fantastic property, located in glorous Gairloch. We had never been to this area and to stay in this property was the ultimate treat. The properyy has 4 excellent bedrroms and ample family space for a party of 6, which we had. The finish and extras in this house and top class and it is obvious that the owners are very invested in this special property. We walked to the locsl beach & golf club most days and house is perfectly located to wlak into Gairloch & Strath, with nice coffee shops & decent local supermarkets. We had a Morrisons delivery to the local Morrisons store, which worked a treat, for larger ticket items. All in all thanks to for a special week and we will be back soon !!

Simply stunning...
We had our second fabulous stay at The Lighthouse in June earlier this year. The accommodation is incredibly comfortable and fully equipped for all guests to enjoy a leisurely holiday. The location is stunning and is ideally placed to visit places of interest for walks and exploring the area. The Lighthouse is a superb property - I'm sure we'll be back!

Fabulous Lighthouse
We have just had another fabulous stay at the Lighthouse.
As you can tell we are regular visitors and there are many reasons we return every year. The accommodation is perfect as is the location. The Lighthouse is perfect whatever the weather, whether sitting inside relaxing and admiring the wonderful view or going for a short walk down to the pier or in the other direction to the beautiful beach.
The house is beautifully appointed and maintained to a very high standard.
The owner, Camilla, and housekeeper, Heidi, are very helpful and easy to contact.
Needless to say, we will be back.

Fantastic home and location
After a year delay due to covid we visited The Lighthouse as the final part of our NC500 trip with friends. Having travelled east to west The Lighthouse and the surrounding area of Gairloch was a superb finale. The house is in a fabulous location with wonderful views across the loch and mountains. The house itself, being “upside down” was beautifully appointed and made the most of the views. Walks from the front door lead to the harbour, beach and waterfalls and the ever changing light and weather meant when we were inside the views from the upstairs open plan living windows were fantastic. We were blessed with good weather for mid March and the housekeeper was quickly on hand to get the deck furniture out of winter store for us to make the most of a sunny spring lunch outside. We would thoroughly recommend The Lighthouse and would love to have a return stay if in the area. Wildlife viewing tallies for the boat trips from the harbour from the previous season showed that this is an added bonus of visiting later in the year.

Stunning, beautifully presented property in a fabulous location close to the sea
The Lighthouse is within walking distance of the harbour (including wildlife trips), beach and the local facilities and Museum at Gairloch - an ideal base for exploring Wester Ross. The house has a real WOW factor when you walk in, and is the best presented and well equipped holiday home that we have rented over the past 30 years. There is a very lovely en-suite master bedroom with views out to sea and the Torridonian mountains. The other two double rooms are not en-suite, but there is a shower room and a family bathroom which means that each bedroom can have their own designated bathroom. We cooked nearly all of our meals in the wonderful kitchen which opens onto the beautifully light dining/lounge area and deck. The views from the upstairs windows are mesmerising in all weathers. The snug TV room is a real bonus and there is an excellent utility room if you need to do any washing. We could have stayed for a month (or maybe for ever!). The fact that the house is pet free was perfect for those of us who suffer from allergies.
The Lighthouse feels equally suitable for a couple, a family, or a group of friends. Everyone will leave feeling relaxed and rested.

The Lighthouse is on a headland facing south over the Gairloch towards the Torridon hills. The scenery is spectacular and unspoilt - very few other houses can be seen from the large windows in the living room. Gairloch is a relatively small highland town, which does get busier in the summer months, but is extremely quiet in the winter. There is, however, plenty to do in the area throughout the year and guests are provided with a detailed Information Pack with descriptions of beaches, walks and other local activities (and booking information where necessary.)
Getting around
From the Lighthouse, you can walk down to the busy Gairloch pier and watch the fishermen come and go. There is a small cafe, gallery and a useful shop at the pier. A short walk round the bay the local pub and restaurant sits by the old stone bridge. If you walk the other way over the headland you will arrive at the Gairloch beach and the nine hole golf course on the dunes. There are a good local butcher, a farm shop, a general store, a community and tourist information centre, cafes and restaurants, a bank and a garage about a mile way along the road in Gairloch centre.

How to get there
The Lighthouse is approximately five hours' drive north of Edinburgh. The nearest airport to the Lighthouse is in Inverness about 75 miles away (about an hour and a half by car.) Guests are advised to either rent a car or to bring their own as local transport links are poor. The nearest train station is in Achnasheen 20 miles away but the bus service between Gairloch and other towns is infrequent. Once at the Lighthouse, you may not need to use your car again for the duration of your stay, though there are lovely beaches and walks a short drive away and the centre of Gairloch is worth a visit.
