Porlock Weir, Exmoor National Park, England
Worthy Cottage is a beautiful 'gatehouse' cottage, perfectly suited to couples looking for a romantic retreat. The property has recently been given a complete make-over and the high specification finish is evident throughout, with new oak and slate flooring, carpets, kitchen and more. Worthy Cottage is located at the entrance to Worthy Manor, the grounds and gardens of which have been featured in Country Life magazine.

Worthy Cottage is one half of a converted barn; downstairs is a bright and airy kitchen / dining / sitting room with a log-burner. Upstairs is the bathroom and good sized bedroom with king-sized bed and great views across the Manor gardens to the sea beyond. The private garden, not enclosed, next to the cottage offers the perfect place to enjoy this unspoilt and corner to Exmoor.
<B... Read more

We stayed in worthy cottage this June. Our reasons for staying came mainly from the photos and descriptions plus the then reviews which seem to have disappeared. This is said to be a one bedroom cottage with great views of the sea. It is indeed a one bedroom cottage but the sea views are very limited to two small windows on the first floor. The picture shows large double doors that look to open up to a garden, this is the main vehicular entrance to both the cottage and a large house and parking is to one side in this space with little room to manoeuvre cars to the main house. The cottage was improved some years ago but there are definite signs of wear and tear and we did spend sometime cleaning the property on arrival but that is up to your own requirements. Some of the lights were not functioning but replacement bulbs were left by the front door these did not fit all the missing bulbs. The owner requested the key be left behind in case they required access. If an owner does require...

About the neighbourhood
Porlock Weir has a quaint little harbour and its own unique charm; the port has a long and colourful history. Today Porlock Weir is a quiet harbour and a thriving community that welcomes tourists every year, many of whom come to enjoy the pretty scenery, shops, tea rooms, pubs and local cuisine. On a fine day, the South West Coast Path offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views across Porlock Weir and the bay. The coastal footpath links up with many other walking trails including Culbone, home to the smallest church in England. One of the more unusual attractions at Porlock Weir is the submerged forest. At low tide, the remains of ancient tree trunks arise from the grey clay soil. These desiccated stumps are the last remaining evidence of a forest that, once upon a time, la... more
