Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Great cottage and facilities, conveniently in the centre of Ballachulish, but still with great mountain views too
I stayed in the Strathassynt Cottage with my wife and 2 daughters (13 and 10) 1-8 August 2015. The cottage is well proportioned for a family of 4 staying, with plenty of space for all to comfortably sit in the lounge and cook and eat in the large kitchen/dining area. Both bedrooms were of a good size and had en-suite shower, sink and toilet; and there's a third toilet room with sink if that weren't enough. The whole cottage was clean and well provided for with towels, bedding and other consumables stocked in the shower rooms and kitchen. This is a real bonus, resulting from the cottage being adjacent to the owners in the Strathassynt Guest House; you get far more service and attention than is normal for a self-catering cottage let, in my experience. The Sky TV and wifi internet were particularly useful, not only keeping younger family members entertained when the weather delays getting out (or returning early), but the wifi was invaluable for planning activities and pre-booking. This is particularly relevant as the whole Glencoe area only has GPRS mobile phone data coverage, so access to fixed line internet is invaluable. The cottage also benefits from being in the centre of Ballachulish village, so there's the local Co-Op grocery shop literally yards away, open for getting supplies 7am-10pm, and the village pub/restaurant is across the road. Being central doesn't mean that you loose the views though, with mountain vistas dominating from the lounge and kitchen/dining room windows. Finally, the cottage has its own parking space and there's a small garden that can be accessed from patio doors from the lounge area. In all we had a great stay at the Strathassynt Cottage and it easily lived up to our expectations. A particular thanks to Neil and the rest of the Strathassynt team.

Best place to stay in the Village
I stayed in the cottage with my wife and 2 children and had a very nice time there. Sky TV and wide range of DVDs and boardgames kept us all entertained during our downtime along with sitting outside in the garden with the most beautiful views of the Highlands. It was great for a family break. Cottage had all modcons and was very clean and fresh throughout. We are hoping to return soon with a group of adults because with the pub across the road is in the perfect place to be after a hard days hillwalking.

Lovely stay at Strathassynt Cottage
We rented the cottage in August 2015 with our two kids and absolutely loved it! The house is very functional and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped, the bedrooms are great with lots of storage space and you can relax in the huge sofas in the living room. Each room is en-suite. The hosts are very friendly and have a great DVD collection to pick a movie from (large selection of children's films). The house is very close to the supermarket so it's really convenient. The area is absolutely beautiful: Fort William, Glen Coe are just a drive away. We totally recommend the place!

Delightful Two Bedroom Cottage
We stayed with Neil for 3 nights at his self contained cottage near Glencoe and had a wonderful time. The place was spacious and homely, and had ample room for the four of us. Neil was extremely helpful with tips of things to do around the area, and was very accommodating and hospitable. Would recommend this place to friends.

About the neighbourhood
Strathassynt Cottage is centrally located in the heart of the West Highlands of Scotland, and this makes it a perfect base for exploring the area. Day trips are possible to the Isle of Mull (and Iona) and the Isle of Skye, as well as south to Loch Awe, Inverary and Oban, and north to Fort William, the Great Glen and Loch Ness. You really couldn't pick a better base for exploring the stunning scenery, history, and whisky the area has to offer.
Getting around
There is no doubt that the easiest way to see the sights is by car. That said, the bus stop is right outside our door from which there is a regular service between KinlochLeven and Fort William, and down to Oban. The bus from Glasgow to Skye also stops here making getting here and moving on very easy,
