Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Cosy Cottage with Outstanding views
We stayed for a week in this beautifully renovated crofters cottage. the cottage itself stands in its own grounds with outstanding views across the bay and gave us many opportunities to sit outside and view the wide variety of birds and wildlife.
Inside, the cottage is beautifully furnished and very well equipped, dish washer, washer/dryer, coffee pod machine and Beautiful Emma Bridgwater and Denby crockery. Coming back after a days walking felt like coming home and the views from the kitchen window are amazing.
As we stayed in the summer, we didn't need heating but did use the log burner on a couple of the cooler evenings. If you were staying in the cooler months this house would be lovely and cosy! There is a large flat screen tv with dvd player and games console and plenty of books for rainy days/evenings.
Communication with the owners was easy and friendly and they responded very quickly to any questions we had.
I would highly recommend this beautiful cottage on the wonderful Isle of Harris. We had an unforgettable holiday and are already planning when to visit again!

Just back from a fantastic week here. Seol Mara is a beautiful cottage in a breath-taking location. Lots to see in the local area, or just sit out back and watch the tide come in at the edge of the garden. Great service from the owners from the point of booking through to the end of our stay, couldn't ask for more! Harris is beautiful, and Seol Mara is ideally located for all the amazing beaches it has to offer, oh and look up towards the most stars I've ever seen!

Cosy cottage in spectacular location
Seol Mara is a comfortable, well-equipped cottage on the edge of the spectacular Luskentyre sands, ideal for couple or family (double bed plus bunks for two and single bed). Great view from kitchen over beach and also feels secluded. Cosy central heating and excellent wood-burning stove. Satellite TV and Xbox, with broadband on the way! Good selection of books including local guides and maps. Highly recommended for year-round stays. And owner Peter couldn't have been more responsive or helpful. We would love to return!

Lovely cottage
This house was just the in the perfect place for us on our trip of the Outer Hebrides.
The house itself was great, fully equipped with all things we could have needed, a fab comfy bed and great shower needed after a long day of hill walking!
It is ideally situated right beside the most beautiful beach, and not a far drive from shopping/ dining facilities.
The owner Peter was very helpful, and only a text or email away if we needed anything.
All in all I would recommend this place, and have done so! A very homely cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Fantastic cottage and superb views
We had a wonderful stay at Seol Mara. The location is fantastic with views towards Luskentyre and Taransay - the picnic table in the garden was a great spot to admire the scenery. We found the cottage very welcoming and a home away from home - it was cosy with a great shower, good heating and a fab wood burning stove. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook tasty dinners and everything was spotlessly clean. We couldn't have asked for more! Even the weather was kind to us :) Thank you very much for a wonderful time!

Wonderfully comfortable cottage in an ideal location, short drive from Tarbert but isolated enough to enjoy uninterrupted scenery. Lovely wood burning fireplace. Peter very knowledgeable and helpful. We had a great stay (10/10) would highly recommend.

Perfectly proportioned high quality home for two in a wonderful location.
This wee cottage exceeded all of our expectations - as did the weather! Just brilliant.
Peter had already been most helpful with lots of advice and tips on where to go and he was spot on. We arrived early so went exploring the nearby beaches and enjoyed the sunshine. Unfortunately the much anticipated cakes and coffee in the gallery next door were not available as it is up for sale. Never mind, there are plenty of other spots and we ended up in the Temple Cafe at Northton and consequently booked for dinner on the Thursday! When we did get back to the cottage Effie, from over the road, had it absolutely sparkling and it immediately felt comfortable and welcoming. Everything was of good quality and the fit and finish of the cottage was excellent. We would love to return sometime - and it is not very often that we say that. PS Try the North Harbour Bistro & Cafe for dinner on Scalpay (BYOB) - 01859 540218 - yummy!!! Vegetarians also catered for if advised beforehand. Altogether a great holiday!

Effi gave a warm welcome when we arrived, both my parents stay in the house way back 1993 so it was a good memory for my dad, and Effi remember him.

Would highly recommend the cottage for its location, yes i would recommend that crofts house to stay in.
we also visited family in isle of Scalpay.
the other reason why in picking the house i lost my mum to MND in 2001 and she is buried in Luskentyre witch you can see from the house, as my mum came from Kendebig

Beautiful cosy cottage
Seol mara is a beautiful cosy cottage. It is well furnished and equipped including little extras such as a coffee machine with pods provided. It is very well positioned to explore Harris and Lewis. We cycled around a lot of the island from the cottage. There are several stunning beaches nearby and tides permitting, you can walk from the cottage to Luskentyre beach which is always visible from the kitchen windows. The owner sent us helpful messages re wildlife sightings. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and look forward to returning.
