Llandrindod Wells, Powys, Wales
The ultimate get away, The Straw Cottage is truly far from the madding crowd, a cottage built of straw bales in an idyllic spot on the farm. Wake up to the sound of birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of Holly Brook, breakfast outside with just the meadow flowers and the hills for company. This is the romance of a bygone era with 2013 comfort. Come for a special break for just the two of you, stars, champagne and total peace. Or if you are bringing the family, see your children experience a different kind of enjoyment in discovering the pleasures of messing about in the stream, seeing the farm animals and making their own entertainment.
The cottage has no electricity but has a gas cooker and cool box, hot shower and flushing WC. A wood burning stove heats the cottage. Lighting is by candles, solar lights and gas lanterns.

Thanks Rob for your kind review, so glad you enjoyed your stay. It would be lovely to see you all again in better weather and when Storm Doris is just a far memory! Just to mention we do have gas lanterns, wind up torches and a solar light in addition to the candles - but the candles are so atmostpheric!

Reviewed 3 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed at the straw cottage for 4 nights in July and it was beautiful, the owners were lovely and very accommodating and the location was wonderful, would highly recommend. The only down side was no electricity although lighting wasn't a problem as the candles gave ample light during the evenings. Would certainly stay again :)

Hi Jorgie. Thank you so much for your kind review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. It's a glamping type cottage, hence no electricity! So pleased that the candles lit up your evenings though! Hope to see you again. Best wishes Margot

Reviewed 13 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We abandoned our plans to go camping since our youngest was recovering from a chest cold and booked The Straw Cottage instead after a lucky internet search. It offered a perfect solution somewhere in-between glamping and a traditional holiday cottage stay. The cottage was extremely comfortable with big squishy sofas, very comfortable beds, hot shower and gas cooker, but escapes...

Thank you for your lovely review. I am so glad the boys enjoyed themselves - it's always great to hear that children enjoy the treasure hunt, swing and stream - that's what we always hoped for when we built the cottage.

About the neighbourhood
Llandrindod Wells is a small Victorian Spa town, which in its heyday had 90,000 visitors a year. The Victorian architecture, the Rock Park gardens, Temple gardens, a small theatre and a 13 acre lake with a boathouse café all make this a pleasant town to explore. It still has individual shops as well as major supermarkets. Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival is held in August and culminates in a magnificent firework display on the lake. Eating out is varied with local pubs, a Thai restaurant, hotels and a wine bar all in the Llandrindod area. For the walker, there are footpaths and bridleways in the surrounding countryside which is a peaceful landscape of uplands, hill farms and river valleys. The popular Offa's Dyke, Glyndwr's Way and Wye Valley walk are amongst the many long di... more
