The Straw Cottage

Cabin -
2 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 4
Llandrindod Wells, Powys, Wales
The ultimate get away, The Straw Cottage is truly far from the madding crowd, a cottage built of straw bales in an idyllic spot on the farm. Wake up to the sound of birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of Holly Brook, breakfast outside with just the meadow flowers and the hills for company. This is the romance of a bygone era with 2013 comfort. Come for a special break for just the two of you, stars, champagne and total peace. Or if you are bringing the family, see your children experience a different kind of enjoyment in discovering the pleasures of messing about in the stream, seeing the farm animals and making their own entertainment.
The cottage has no electricity but has a gas cooker and cool box, hot shower and flushing WC. A wood burning stove heats the cottage. Lighting is by candles, solar lights and gas lanterns.

Interaction with guests
We ask that you come to the farm first, so that we can take you down to the Straw Cottage to show you how everything works and where everything is. There is plenty of information and literature to tell you about the area, what to see, where to eat but we are very happy to chat to you about what you might like to see and do whilst at the cottage. You are very welcome to come up to the farm any time during your stay for a chat or for more information. Children often like to come and see the horses and dogs.

We spent half term here with our 2 children aged 6 and 9. The cottage is set in the most beautiful location you can imagine, and the privacy and seclusion really helped us wind down. The children loved the freedom they had to wander around,...More

About the neighbourhood
Llandrindod Wells is a small Victorian Spa town, which in its heyday had 90,000 visitors a year. The Victorian architecture, the Rock Park gardens, Temple gardens, a small theatre and a 13 acre lake with a boathouse café all make this a pleasant town to explore. It still has individual shops as well as major supermarkets. Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival is held in August and culminates in a magnificent firework display on the lake. Eating out is varied with local pubs, a Thai restaurant, hotels and a wine bar all in the Llandrindod area. For the walker, there are footpaths and bridleways in the surrounding countryside which is a peaceful landscape of uplands, hill farms and river valleys. The popular Offa's Dyke, Glyndwr's Way and Wye Valley walk are amongst the many long di... more
Getting around
There is a train station in Llandrindod Wells which is on the Heart of Wales line that runs from 121 miles from Shrewsbury to Swansea. It is a very scenic route, passing through glorious countryside and small attractive stations. At these small stations you will need to tell the guard you want to get off or put your hand out if you want to get on! It's a great way to see some of the little towns and attractions along the line, you can stop off and have lunch and then catch the train back.
If you are coming from the north you can get connections from Manchester, Crewe and onto Shrewsbury.

How to get there
Railway: Llandrindod Wells: 4.8 km
On arrival at the farm, we will ask you to follow us in your car down to the cottage. This involves a short drive down the farm lane and across on a hard drive to a parking place. From there it is approximately a 98metre walk through woodland to the cottage. We have a cart to take the luggage down and will help you carry stuff.
