Built in 1741, five years before the battle of Culloden the cottage has recently been renovated and refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining many of the original features and character.

Sleeping 6 (beds can be made up as singles or doubles) with an additional folding bed available, the cottage offers all the trappings of country life; woodburning stove, range cooker, stone sink, antique pine kitchen, large private garden with fruit trees, swings and seating, beautiful countryside, walks, cycling, fishing and golfing but also the benefits of village amenities with a friendly pub serving good beer and food and a well stocked village shop right on your doorstep.

We stayed for a long weekend with two children (ages 4 & 6), plus grandma who was celebrating her 70th and the cottage was perfect! Ancrum is a quaint village with a lovely pub on your doorstep. The cottage was lovely and clean with a great downstairs space between the lounge & kitchen. The garden is certainly a highlight! We...

Violet cottage set in a lovely village with good local shop and pub. Ideal location for exploring the Borders. Comfy beds with crisp quality bed linen. Beautiful enclosed garden with plenty of seating to catch the last rays of the day. Fabulous range cooker and well equipped kitchen.

About the neighbourhood
Ancrum village is well located to tour the Borders and flavour the hospitality of the area. The Border towns of Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose, Hawick and Galashiels are within 20 mins. drive.

The Borders is steeped in history and proud traditions. There are many interesting places to visit, Abbotsford- home of Sir Walter Scott near Melrose, Floors Castle at Kelso, Bowhill near Selkirk, Mary Queen of Scots House and The Castle Jail in Jedburgh to name a few.

The Borders is made for cycling. Quiet country lanes and open countryside between the Border towns and villages. The mountain bike centre at Glentress is 40 minutes drive from Ancrum

The Borders has 21 golf courses to be enjoyed. All the courses are set in spectacular countryside and most Border towns have their own course.

The Scottish Borders are easily accessible by car with good motorway links. The nearest airports are at Edinburgh and Newcastle, both of which are well served with flights from within the UK and the rest of Europe. Nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed has excellent rail links, with Edinburgh and Newcastle just 40 minutes away and London Kings Cross to Berwick from 3.5 hours by train.
