Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.
Learn more about our review moderation.

Pottery Cottage - Lochinver
We have been staying at the Pottery Cottage for over ten years, returning year after year, in all seasons. The house is extremely comfortable and very well equipped for all types of stay – active or relaxed – and of course has an amazing array of Highland Stoneware pottery both in the kitchen and on the walls! We never tire from the views from the house and there’s the added bonus of the local wildlife to spot. Highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
The holiday house is situated close to Lochinver, within the grounds of Highland Stoneware Pottery, with spectacular views of the village, harbour, sea and mountains. During your stay in our holiday cottage please visit the pottery to see how the pots are made and to spend your exclusive discount voucher! See the Highland Stoneware website for information. There are many activities around Lochinver. The quiet pace of life, means that you can also wind down, and relax in the holiday cottage, looking at the lovely views with the fishing boats and yachts sailing in and out of the working harbour and marina. Several walks can be taken directly from the cottage. You can walk over the Ardroe path to the stunning Achmelvich beach. This leads on to further up the coast to Altanabran, where there is an ancient ruined mill. If you don't want to walk back to the village you can always try your hand at hitch-hiking!!!A short walk through the village takes you to the network of paths in the Culag Woods, where you reach the viewpoint or the beautiful 'White Shore', a lovely pebble beach. By making a short drive, there are many more walks that can be done. These include an all abilities path at Lettier Easaidh and also a walk to the spectacular Kirkaig Falls. You might be tempted to visit Achins, the remote bookshop, where you can also enjoy refreshments. For the more adventurous, Lochinver is a great base for mountain climbing. Suilven is the most distinctive, although it is surprisingly one of the smallest mountains. Ben More Assynt is our local Munro, and most of the other mountains in the area are Corbets. There are wonderful white sandy beaches near Lochinver. Achmelvich and Clachtoll beaches are the biggest, but with some exploring, you can easily find one of the many secluded hidden gems!Assynt is an anglers paradise. The many hill lochs provide ample brown trout, some of the larger lochs also hold salmon. There are also the Rivers Inver and Kirkaig for salmon. Of course permits are required - for more information on fishing in Assynt, check Assynt Angling Club's website.Assynt, is teaming with wildlife, and otters, heron and divers are frequently spotted from the house. The mountains provide a home to birds of prey, not forgetting the many red deer. Birdwatchers may also enjoy a trip to Handa Island, an RSPB site, with many species, including Puffins in May & June.Geologically the area has the oldest rocks in the world, and a scenic boat trip, lets you view the highest waterfall in Europe. Visit the bone caves at Inchnadamph or try going underground into the ancient cave system. - Not advisable for the inexperienced!Children can safely play in the garden, and around the area, where there is a small playpark, and tarred sport area - great for learning to ride a bike! Most provisions can be purchased locally, and if you want a really satisfying packed lunch, try the famous Lochinver pies.Pick fresh herbs from the garden to add local flavour to your menus but if you don't want to eat in every night, Lochinver has become renowned for its wide variety of dining establishments all of excellent quality. As your day comes to an end sit on the patio with a favourite drink and enjoy the sunset , or, if the weather is bad, watch the dramatic waves from the comfort of the cosy log fire.On a clear night, look up and enjoy some star gazing!
