Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

EXCELLENT - Would recommend
Just back from a weeks stay here - we stayed in Midtown and Assynt. The accommodation was spotless and very well equipped. The grounds were immaculate and we could not fault anything. Set in a beautiful quiet location overlooking the Loch - we were lucky with the weather too! Beautiful beaches nearby and stunning scenery. There is a boat trip that runs from the harbour but unfortunately the new owner of the boat was still waiting on his licence to arrive, so that's an addition for next time. We would like to say a big thank you to the property Manager, Sue Macleod for a wonderful stay.

Fantastic views and well equipped
Have stayed in this chalet a couple of times now. It is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. It is a little cramped if your party is more than two but I would recommend it as a reasonably priced option in the wonderful surroundings of Lochinver. 15 min walk into the main village and parking 30 yards from the chalet.

Very comfortable cottage in superb location
We stayed in the cottage in 2006 and were delighted to discover it was available again this month (July 2017). Very well equipped modern cottage. Spacious kitchen and living room. Comfortable bedrooms and beds. Terrace to sit out on a summer evening with one of the most stunning views in Scotland- towards the peaks of the Assent mountains. We had excellent weather and were able to access remote beautiful beaches on sunny days - and climb iconic Quinag. Excellent local restaurants.

Excellent, modern property in fantastic location
Apart from the chalet, we have stayed in the cottage too, and in both cases the properties were very clean, well-equipped, and modern. There is wifi, and satellite (Sky Freesat) TV. The properties also have fantastic views into Lochinver Bay, with lots of birdlife and views of some of the iconic mountains in these parts - Suilven, Canisp, Cul Mor, Stac Polly etc. It's a paradise for walkers and birdwatchers.

Accommodation had a strong smell of dampness
The accommodation was functional, however there was a strong smell of dampness in the twin bedroom and which we attributed to rotting window frame which had been coated with numerous layers of paint, however, there was no saving it and it required to be replaced. The kitchen had all the pots pans etc you would need however there was very little room to store actual food, tins etc. The kitchen is very small and cramped. Overall although we did enjoy our time in Lochinver and would return to the area, we would not return to the chalet.

Excellent cottage with all the mod cons in a beautiful location
We really enjoyed our stay in this chalet. It was very comfortable and snug throughout, with a good view of the loch, a well-equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom. It was a good location for us with lots of great hill walks within a short drive.

A beautiful Highland holiday
We had a week's lovely stay in Lochinver. The Midtown Chalet was very comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and sitting room. Everything was clean and modern. If you stand at the main window of the chalet you can look across the water towards Lochinver and the mountains behind and watch small fishing boats coming and going in the morning and evening. We saw deer every day - in the fields, in gardens and on the hills. Midtown Lodge provided us with an excellent base to climb mountains every day and there are some very good restaurants in the village too.

About the neighbourhood
Lochinver Village A fifteen minute walk from the property takes you into the village of Lochinver for all local amenities. We have a local butcher, pub and restaurants, small supermarket, petrol station, post office and gift shop. The Caberfeidh Restaurant is located at the beginning of the village overlooking the river Inver and offers a fantastic selection of traditional home cooked pub food and the bar has a good choice of beers, wines and spirits. A further five minutes walk through the village brings you to the award winning Assynt Visitor Centre where tourist information is available. This is also the base for the Highland Council Countryside Rangers who offer a number of guided walks throughout the summer. One such walk is to the Alt na Uamh Bone Caves at Inchnadamph, where bone fragments from brown bear, lynx, arctic fox and hundreds of pairs of reindeer antlers have been found. The centre is packed with information and displays of the area, its people, wildlife and history. Upstairs there is also a children's area and downstairs there is cctv monitoring the activities of Herons nesting in the nearby Culag Woods. A little further on is the local branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, which has Cashline facilities and the Lochinver Chandlery, local hardware store. At the back of the pier is the Assynt Leisure Centre, which was opened on 29th July, 2006 by HRH The Princess Royal. It has a sports hall with 3 badminton/short tennis courts, basketball, table tennis and a Gym. Upstairs there are internet facilities, a small snack bar for soft drinks, teas and coffee and pool tables, table football and computer games, ideal for a rainy day. At the back of the leisure centre lie the Culag Woods, where there are several paths to follow, one leading to a lovely pebble beach called the White Shore. On the coastal road 3 miles south of Lochinver is InverKirkaig. Here is a very nice walk along the Kirkaig river, walking as far as the Kirkaig Falls or a little further to Loch Fionn which lies at the foot of mount Suilven. On your return back down the footpath, Achins Book & Coffee Shop is well worth visisting.

How to get there
By Road : Directions from the South From Inverness take the A835 to Ullapool and then carrying on north to Ledmore Junction. Turn left onto the A837 to Lochinver. On approach to the village down the steep hill, take the right turning to Baddidarrach, which crosses over a stone bridge & the River Inver. Baddidarrach is sign posted along this road with a left turn just after the cattle grid. This is now a single track road and after two right hand bends the Caisteal Liath Chalets and car parks are located on the right hand side of the road. A little further along this road, Caisteal Liath House & Guest House is the second house on the right with a large double garage at the bottom of the drive. This road has no street lighting and it is advisable to have a torch with you.
