Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Peaceful retreat
A lovely well equipped cottage. Very clean with splendid views. On our first day saw a herd of deer feeding infront if the cottage. It would be a great place to stay any time of year.

Easter
The cottage was enjoyable and met all our needs. The views from the cottage are fantastic, mountains and sea. We found the area interesting and followed some of the local walks outlined in the cottage information.

Serenity
We stayed in Meall Dubh cottage in the first week in March, which being off season felt like we had the area to ourselves. On arrival out first call was the beach to watch a spectacular sunset. The cottage itself, is extremely cosy and comfortable and contains everything you could possibly need, a fully equipped kitchen, a log burner in the living room and kitchen, very comfortable beds and 2 bathrooms. The view from the cottage is spectacular with the sea to your right and a mountain range straight ahead. We visited Achmelvich beach which is about a 15 minute drive down the single track road, absolutely stunning white sand and turquoise water. We also walked to the end of the road, for 15 minutes to visit Stoer Lighthouse and then continued on a walk from 'Walk Highlands' which takes you to the 'Old Man of Stoer' (quite boggy in places) and then to a small hill close by which gave amazing views of snow covered mountains. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked to return later this year. Remember to visit the pie shop in Lochinver, it's awesome and also Flossies in Clashmore which has a good selection of essentials.

Great place - will come again!
My wife and I and another couple have stayed at Meall Dubh for the third time already. The cottage is very well equipped, cozy and warm. The surroundings are nothing less than spectacular with the sea nearby, the grassy hills all around and the mountains in good view. We will be very happy to come again.

Spectacular views at every turn, even from the cosy cottage itself.
Cosy, well equipped cottage in a truly awesome location. Loved the wood-burning stoves. We loved exploring the area, from the peninsula and beyond. In every direction the views were spectacular and in the evenings we just looked out the large picture windows to admire the mountains at leisure. Loads to see and do and one visit is not enough. An extremely enjoyable and memorable holiday.

Great location, cosy well equipped cottage
Great little cottage, superb location & views - had all we needed for a wonderful break. Easy walk to the shore, and to the lighthouse at Stoer. View of Canisp, Suilven etc from the kitchen & living room was an unexpected treat too!

Gorgeous cottage in an unforgettable location
Absolutely perfect cottage, cosy log burners and everything you could possibly need in a holiday home-from-home. We fell in love with Meall Dubh and didn't want to leave. Awesome weather for October - we got sunburn! Who would have thought we should have packed sun cream for a trip in October. Fantastic walks right from the front door with sea views (and on clear days across to the Islands and Lewis) and the mountains on the horizon. Not enough words to describe it. We will be back!!

Don't miss a great stay at Meall Dubh
Meall Dubh is a traditional croft cottage which has been beautifully renovated. It is well maintained and clean and has a great layout with wonderful views of the coastal and mountain scenery of Assynt. The cottage's warmth and comfort is a delight to return to at the end of a day of walking or touring the countryside. There are many wonderful places to visit whether you like walking or driving. Just a short drive away are the beautiful sandy beaches of Achmelvich and Clachtoll as well as other hidden beaches. Just along the road to the Stoer Lighthouse and the Old Man of Stoer or into Lochinver where you can walk River Inver and Glencanisp circuit are but two of many walks in the area. A meal at the Kylesku Hotel is also a great way to end the day after perhaps a trip to Handa Island. We have visited this rugged and awesome part of Scotland three times staying at Meall Dubh and would highly recommend it so that you too can experience all it has to offer. About the neighbourhood
Beaches Close By : 4 beautiful sandy beaches are found within a very short drive: spectacular Achmelvich, Culkein, Clachtoll or Clashnessie. Both Clachtoll and Achmelvich are popular for swimming, canoeing and windsurfing and Achmelvich has wonderful rock pools at low tide. Walking Around Meall Dubh:In less than 5 minutes' walk from the cottage you are on Raffin's own rocky beach. If you are lucky you will catch sight of an otter or basking shark, whales or even dolphins. Alternatively, you can walk or cycle down the quiet single track road to Stoerhead Lighthouse to look across to the Outer Hebrides, or view the magnificent sunsets. This is a well-known spot for wildlife watching (whales, dolphins, basking sharks, birds, otters), and for walking to see the famous Old Man of Stoer sea stack. There are several nice walks of various lengths you can do from the cottage front door, from a few hundred yards to the whole Stoerhead circuit of around 10 miles. If you like mountains, there are plenty of interesting challenges to be found within 60 minutes drive. Climbing and More: The landscape of Assynt is famed throughout the world. The unique geology resulted in the area becoming part of Scotland's first ever Geopark back in 2004. As well as interesting and diverse geological history, the rocks also provide a climbing and walking ground of varied levels on some well known Munros and hills. Suilven, Quinag and Canisp are amongst some of the names that climbers relish. The local rangers organise walks and talks in the area and there are visitor centres such as Knockan Crag at Elphin. where you can learn about the geology of the region and how it played a crutial part in modern theories of continental drift theory. Also the Visitor Centre at Lochinver is a great place to learn all about the nature and wildlife of the area as well as find out about the activities available locally.
