Bankfield House, is a large Edwardian House set in it's own grounds on the South Lakes Peninsula overlooking the shifting sands of the stunning Morecambe Bay. Situated in a village called Allithwaite just a mile from Cartmel and the Lake District National Park where people come from around the world for walks, cycling ,painting, climbing, bird watching and the local hospitality of pubs and Michelin starred restaurants. It is also just 500 metres from the local pub and train station. Bankfield House is the perfect retreat for families or groups of friends looking to either relax in the grounds of the house or explore the local area.

Ten adults, one toddler and one dog all fitted comfortably in to this large house. The kitchen had all the facilities you could think of for catering for so many, including an electric wine cooler for the fizz. We are a family of 14 spreading across 3 generations (and Alfie the dog!) who stayed here for a weekend in May for a holiday. We had a wonderful time and didn't feel overcrowded at all. Allithwaite is a quaint village with an excellent pub, a train station, church, shop - all within walking distance of the house.<BR><BR>Nearby we have Grange Over Sands which is an Edwardian holiday destination with duck pond, promenade and many interesting shops,including award winning butchers and bakery.There is also a Spar and a Co-op.For the major supermarkets a 25min drive to Kendal is required.<BR><BR>Cartmel is a mile away and is food lovers heaven with a double Michelin starred restaurant and lots of pubs in the medieval village square.The beautiful Priory dates back to 1190 and is well worth a visit,and do not forget the racecourse which is one of the lovliest settings in the country to watch National Hunt racing.<BR><BR>Activities nearby inclu... more

By Car leave Junction 36 off the M6 and travel along the A591 towards Windermere, taking the A590 signposted to the Lake District Peninsulas.
