We were here for a long weekend to meet up with other family. The cottage was clean and well equipped, including fresh milk in the fridge, and the beds were comfortable. The location is good - within walking distance of an excellent pub - as it's not too far from Penrith and very close to Lazonby where there is a...

We booked this with a week to spare, and John the owner was helpful and responsive on the phone and my email. On arrival we (family of 5, including 1 child) were delighted with our cottage (Grant?), especially the large lounge/kitchen/diner - well equipped and spotlessly clean, and the gardens. The whole cottage very clean and well equipped - location...

About the neighbourhood
Great Salkeld has a population of some 400 people and is centered round the old Primary School. Pub and Norman Church. The church tower houses a clock whose chimes can be heard in the distance. The village's long history is found not only in the church but also by the remains of a middle age castle and records of several droving routes. The pub, The Highland Drove, which is renowned for its food, was once the stopping place for the drovers, who's animals were watered at the Dub just outside the village and now home to rare Great Crested Newts. The cottages are a mere 100yds from the church and pub.<BR>Penrith an attractive market town is the hub of the Eden Valley.
