About the neighbourhood
Great Asby is one of those sleepy, forgotten places that few people know about. An ancient community built along the banks of Asby Beck it boasts a wonderful variety of vernacular architecture from the 14th century peel tower, the Alms Houses built in 1814 for the ‘poor' widows of the parish’ to the classic limestone farmhouses under Westmorland green slate roofs. The Three Greyhounds, the traditional village pub sits in the centre of the
village, a five minute walk from your cottage. There are some amazing natural features in and around the village all within walking distance, Asby Scar National Nature Reserve, Pate Hole, Asby Kettles, the ‘Holy Wells’, the limestone pavement, Rutter Falls to mention only a few…….
