Jenny's Croft has also been certified as a 'Families Welcome' and 'Pets Welcome' cottage y Visit England which means we provide extra facilities, equipment and information for our visitors and there is plenty of room in the large off road garden area for getting outside! Views over the rolling hills of the Eden Valley are the main feature of Jenny's Croft and its private entrance, parking area and outlook make the best of this. Jenny's Croft has also been certified as a 'Families Welcome' and 'Pets Welcome' cottage y Visit England which means we provide extra facilities, equipment and information for our visitors and there is plenty of room in the large off road garden area for getting outside! If Jenny's Croft is already reserved, please look at our sister cottage, Elk Cottage which offers very similar accommodation and may well be available. The recent renovation of Jenny's Croft brings this traditional Cumbria long house and barn back into habitation for the first time since 1764 and retains their original features including stone walls, arched openings and terraced fields. Jenny's Croft has two bedrooms & both are ensuite, one with a bathroom and the other with a shower room so you have flexibility regarding bathroom choices. The Master Bedroom has an antique five foot bed. The Eamont Room may be arranged as either a six foot bed or two three foot twin beds depending on your preference. It has an open plan living room, dining room area and a dine in kitchen and a rear sandstone terrace and lovely raised beds which open up to a lawned area then behind onto a recently plated orchard. There is private parking and teak (sustainable plantation) garden furniture on the terrace and a Weber charcoal BBQ grill with locally sourced charcoal and equipment provided for guest use. There is great walking from the front door of Jenny's Croft. We have posted some routes on The Rowley Estates website under the 'walks, hikes and drives' section beneath 'Great Days Out & Activities'. My absolute favourite is along the River Eden from Dale Raven down towards Little Salkeld. It is spectacularly beautiful down there with some old hermit caves carved into the sandstone cliffs about a mile or so along the walk. One of England's largest Druidic stone circles - Long Met and her Daughters - is also close by & is owned by our family. It is a fun place to spend some time climbing on the rocks & there is an old legend that people can never count the same number of stones twice around. There are two great local puns in the next village called The Crown and The Fetherston Arms. Reservations are definitely recommended on the weekends for these pubs as they are super popular with the locals-including our family! Glassonby is about 3 miles from Melmerby and about 12 miles from Ullswater & The Lakes District. Jenny's Croft is a short drive (or longish 3 mile walk along an old bridleway) from the village of Melmerby where there is an excellent village shop and tea room, a very reasonably priced antique shop called La Brocante and The Old Village Bakery which serves breakfasts, lunches coffees, homemade bread and cakes and has a lovely ladies fashion, interior and gift shop upstairs called 'Holberrie' which is definitely worth a visit to support local independent retailing! As part of our commitment to its 5* status, we provide our guests with a welcome hamper on arrival which includes a selection of breakfast items including milk, eggs, bread, butter, marmalade, cheese, fresh fruit, orange juice, cereal, biscuits, The Rowley Estates cafetiere coffee and Lakeland Tea and wine. There is also tea, coffee, sugar, spices and other supplies provided in the kitchen. All of the Egyptian cotton bed linen, bathroom toiletries, towels, a generous supply of logs, kindling and firelighters for the open wood burning fire and locally sourced charcoal for the Weber BBQ are all provided free of charge. There is good broadband wifi at Jenny's Croft. Though Jenny's Croft is no longer part of a working farm, its position on one of the higher hills in the Eden Valley gives it amazing views towards the Pennines and the rolling countryside that has seen this area in Cumbria declared one of the UK's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
