The Manager and staff are always around to receive and welcome our guest with a fresh home made welcome drink.
Guest are welcomed to sign their registration cards and brief info about the house ,thereafter escorted to the room by the steward.
The house is private hence no walk-ins to interfere with guest stay.

This guesthouse is stunningly set, luxuriously designed and exquisitely serviced. It is completely quiet and peaceful, the food is outstanding and the rooms are incredibly comfortable. I stayed in the Junior Suite (the name undersells it) and it was completely worth the price for its large size, fantastic views and magnificent bath. I was wholly relaxed leaving here and have run out of superlatives. Just go: you won't regret it.

Feel like home
Beautiful house on a big land, perfectly well located in Karen. The personnel is very nice, and the cook makes delicious & tasty dishes. The owner, Chris, is super friendly; always around but in a discrete manner. I was very lucky since we were only 2 clients when I went which made my stay even more special. This is a very nice place to relax and to stay for more than few days!

Pull up your socks
On a visit to The Gables in Karen with my partner, our requests when making the reservation on phone were: 1) We would like a room with a fireplace and a fire needs to be lit 2) Late check out for 1pm the following day and we would do lunch with them.
We did not get the fire we had requested for. So we said to them, it would be unfair to charge the $120 for a room with a fireplace since we didn't get the fire we wanted. We suggested they charge us $85 which is what a room without a fireplace goes for. They declined.
During breakfast, they said we would need to leave the room by 11am. We reminded them on the agreed late check out time. They said there must have been a breakdown in communication because we must leave the room immediately but we could hang around the compound until 1pm. We told them we could actually stay on the compound for as long as we are consuming their food/beverages. The point about late check out is to actually vacate the room.
There were no bath towels in the bathroom. At breakfast we mentioned the towel situation. After breakfast we went for a walk around the property. When we got back to the room, still no bath towels. My partner had to actually go down stairs to fetch the towels.
My partners beers ran out after the 4th and I couldn't get favourite tipple...Myers Rum.
We have enjoyed our visits around this beautiful country and we have made these often. So far, The Gables has been the bottom of the barrel. We will not be returning. If you make a booking with them, get everything in writing so you can argue your case when (not if) they disappoint you.

Lovely place
Stop over , lovely old house ( but new ) The Dutch owner as made a lovely relaxed house to stay in wonderful grounds with swimming pool, the staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble for them, we had breakfast and it was very good a lot of choice, will stay again now that we have found it. If you are looking to stay near Nairobi you will not be disappointed.

Great place for a quick stay before safari
This was the perfect bed and breakfast style accommodations for one night before our safari. The beautiful grounds are secured with gates and security. The staff can work around any dietary restrictions.

Lovely house in Karen
This house is fairly new but it's designed to look like a dignified older home with character and history. It's lovingly and tastefully decorated and has numerous nice touches. The grounds (with pool, garden, and stream) are beautifully done, and the owner and his staff couldn't be nicer. We thought the dinner was good but too expensive, and the room rate seemed high. A lovely place to stay near Nairobi if you don't mind the steep B & B price.

Beautiful home for visitors
The property is a real gem, maybe because it was designed and it used to be a home. Inside you will find that everything was handpicked, piece by piece, there are a lot of antiques pieces of furniture, decorations, carpets and so on that are beautifully chosen and very nice displayed.
The garden in amazing, like the one from the fairytales: a small pond, a river that crosses the backyard, an intimate garden to which you have to go down the stairs, the swimming pool with a nice bar nearby. And the piece of resistance: an outdoor chimney.
The rooms are larger and nicer than expected.
The breakfast was prepared on demand and they were also very nice about serving us a late lunch. The dinner was excellent!!! And they have good wines.

Very comfortable stay
Stayed here with my husband and two children for four nights in the main suite. The main suite is beautiful, nice touches like books to read and a nice stereo to listen to, hot water bottles in our beds at night.
All the staff were lovely and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Charles put some movies on for my girls which they enjoyed. The chef made my husband a lovely birthday cake. This place really feels like home, quiet and peaceful. Also very good food, would be nice to see a menu with options available and the same with alcohol.
Location was perfect, we walked to Kazuri Beads, which is a bead lovers paradise, and got taxis to giraffe centre, not far away, and other places.
My daughters loved going in the pool, even when it was rather cold. I have to say the highlight for us was the gorgeous and well trained dogs here, Sansu and Max, we are missing them!
Would definitely recommend and would like to stay here again in future.

Loveliest guest house in Nairobi
I had the great fortune to spend 5 days at Karen Gables in between safaris in Tanzania and Uganda. It was a respite from the second I arrived. The food is delicious; the rooms oh so comfy; but it was the house staff, Winfred and Charles in particular, who filled my heart with so much joy....attentive, gracious, and always with big smiles. It would be impossible to improve on my stay at Karen Gables.

Lovely guest house in Karen
We had such a lovely stay at Karen Gables. My husband and I, along with our 10 year old son, spent 3 nights at Karen Gables prior to our safari. We stayed in the Master Suite, which was incredibly spacious, with a separate sitting room with a fireplace. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating and the meals were fantastic. We enjoyed walking to Kazuri Beads and also to Hemingway's for lunch one day.
Clemence arranged for a driver for us one day, which worked out great. While it was quite cool during our visit, our son did take a quick dip in the pool and I am sure it would be really great during the warmer months. He loved exploring the expansive grounds, where he spotted his first wildlife of the trip (monkeys). We also loved the company of the dogs at the property. Overall, just a lovely place to spend a few nights pre- or post safari.
