We loved our stay at Carl Poxo. The house was super comfortable, and the town (the quiet town of Pradel de la Texeita), idyllic. Jesus, the owner, was a superb host: Friendly, engaged, helpful and very knowledgeable.
The area is very pretty: rolling hills covered in almond trees and vineyards and olive groves. There is excellent hiking all around the town, and the town itself has great amenities for children and adults (playground, pool, bell tower, olive museum, bakery, small grocery store).
I would highly recommend this listing to any family or couple interested in experiencing first hand quiet life in a small village in rural Spain.

A Beautiful House located in the most amazing countryside.
My wife and I stayed here, along with our 21 year old daughter for the first two weeks of September. This is a beautiful house, which Jesus and his wife have carefully converted into a wonderful, stylish and luxurious holiday home. The house itself is located at the centre of the village, opposite the village bakery and with Jesus’ own shop below selling local wine, olive oil, nuts and various other products derived from the local produce. The house is well organised over two floors, with a further sun gallery above and a large entrance hall below and had everything we could have wanted for a quiet, comfortable restful few weeks, whilst providing all of this with flair and attention to detail.
The village is about 10 minutes drive from Falset where there are restaurants, butchers and various stores, or about 30 minutes away from the large town of Tarragona, with its many shops and large supermarkets. From the town you can easily walk or drive further up into the mountains to enjoy beautiful views and try the many wonderful wines from various Bodegas. Equally you can drive down to the coast (about 30 minutes), to the Mediterranean beaches for the day. We did all of this and had the most wonderful and relaxing time.
Jesus and his wonderful family were the perfect hosts, helpful and pleasant to talk to, knowledgeable about the surrounding area with suggestions of places to visit, restaurants at which to eat and local walks to take. The village itself is also beautiful and well managed so that its character remains as it grows and develops. The local people were always friendly and happy to talk, from the first day when we arrived and spent a pleasant few hours in the local bar catching up with our daughter who had spent the summer teaching nearby, through to the last. We spent one particularly wonderful evening with the village and Jesus’ wider family at a fiesta in the village hall, eating bread and fish and local produce to celebrate the first pressing of this year’s olive harvest. We arrived, empty handed for a quick chat and left with full stomachs three hours later having spent the evening telling and listening to various different life stories.
As a half Spanish half English family currently living in the UK, we have travelled a lot in Spain including to South East Cataluña. Cal Proxo, the family Garcia and Pradell de la Teixeta have left a strong and wonderful impression. We don’t often revisit the same place twice. For all of the above reasons and many more, Cal Proxo may be an exception.

Great rural property close to fantastic motorcycling roads.
This is a lovely property in a rural village, giving you a taste of the real Spain. Watching the comings and goings at the bakery (when open) is great fun.
Beware of the town clock, which is 100m away and strikes 552 times a day!
The only fault we could find was the absence of air-conditioning - it was very warm & humid in September, and opening the windows only led to a fly invasion.
Also be aware that the 2 main bedrooms share a bathroom.
Jesus kindly allowed us to park our 2 motorcycles in his garage.
The village is isolated, and your own transport is essential.

A delightful house, village and scenic district
The house:
Cal Porxo is as lovely as the photographs!
When renovated, it was with such wonderful taste - so much so that we all were delighted - including our teenage boys.
Ground floor is little more than a large porch with stairs to the first floor (kitchen, living room, single bedroom and shower/toilet/sink room). The next floor has the 2 double bedrooms with a shared shower/toilet/sink room. The next floor up is the terrace (through a low door) with lovely views over the pan-tiled roofs of the surrounding homes and the church tower. It was very pleasant to read up there or play cards etc.
The kitchen is very well stocked - with a big fridge/freezer, toaster, cooker/hob and enough crockery to be able to fill the dishwasher! (There is also a clothes washer tucked away upstairs).
We were concerned that the house would be too hot – not having air-con. The weather when we were there wasn’t exceedingly hot (for August) but we were still surprised how cool the house was. It must be the stone construction. The owner Jesus suggested that we closed the windows by day to keep the cool in and open the windows by night to let the cool in. This seemed to work.
The Village:
The village is truly beautiful. Medieval narrow streets and tall multi-floored narrow homes! It is all beautifully kept (in a rustic style) and around each corner you come to a view over the valley and the impressive mountains and cliffs. There is a wonderful playground for younger kids with swings and slides, and a table tennis table – which we all played on (and Jesus provided bats and balls). There are even hammocks to relax in.
The municipal pool is lovely and new and a bit like an infinity pool as you look out on the stunning scenery.
We found everyone in the village were friendly and greeted you as you passed. My boys made friends with some of the village boys and played polo in the pool and table tennis with them – the grand football game didn’t quite get organised!
We did think that it might be so quiet and dead that it there would be no soul to the place – far from it. There were always people around sitting outside their homes chatting.
And as for quiet – well their kids don’t go to bed until at least midnight and can be heard calling and shouting – and of course – are heard through all the open windows! It’s not only the kids but the church clock not only counts the hours, but the quarter hours too – and if that is not enough the clock (after a pause) counts the hours a second time! And yes it is all through the night!! (With open windows!!). We just thought it was part of charm of the ‘real’ village that Pradell de la Teixeta is.
The District:
It is so different to the coast here. Lots of rugged scenery. Lots of interesting car drives. We only wished we had more time to explore.
Owner:
Jesus Garcia is a lovely warm genuine guy.
We managed to break something and he was very very accommodating.
We felt he was someone you could trust.

Very Special
A superb rural hideaway. The house is very well appointed on 3 levels, four if you count the small roof terrace. Comfy beds, good cooking facilities, good fridge, good showers etc etc... Little bakers shop nearby for bread and other essentials. Travel to nearby Falset for meat/fish/fresh veg for cooking dinner. Nice bar/restaurant about 150m away where we watched Barcelona playing footie on TV. The village is VERY quiet, but all the inhabitants you see will talk to you. Easy unload of cases and easy parking. The municipal pool only opens in Summer months, check locally and it's a bit of a climb so you will need a dip when you get there. The owner, Jesus is a first class bloke. Has the keys to the wine shop below where you can buy excellent local wines. Trust his advice.

A Piece of Paradise
If you have a chance to stay here, you should consider yourself extremely lucky. Not only is the apartment incredibly beautiful and extremely well designed, but Jesus is so knowledgeable about the area that you'll feel you're being given an insider's view of things to do. Jesus met us in the town square upon arrival, settled us comfortably, and then talked with us about the region, giving us a detailed map showing special places to see and things to do. Everyone of his suggestions was outstanding. He made arrangements for us to have a wine tour at a local vineyard that was certainly the best and most informative wine tour I've ever had. His suggestions for restaurants, groceries and bakeries were extremely helpful. The town's location makes it possible to reach everything you'd like to do in a single day. My only complaint about our stay was that it was too short. We were there almost 5 days, and I think you could easily spend two weeks in this region. I think many american tourists don't know the Priorat and are unaware of its attractions. This is a not-to-be missed region of wonderful medieval towns and villages, amazing monasteries, great vineyards and all surrounded by spectacular hills for hiking and biking.

Beautiful and tranquil place
The house is easy to find and the rural setting allows for access to mountain areas for keen walkers or wine lovers. Jesus has thought of every possible piece of equipment needed to make your stay restful and the use of the pool is an additional bonus. The roof terrace gives a secluded area to sit and therefore allows for shaded lunches or afternoon rests. The hire of a small car is recommended as the streets and roads locally are very narrow and windy. Jesus is easy to contact and is very helpful and knowledgeable about what to see in the region.

Pradell de la Teixeta is surrounded by the uniquely mountainous landscape of Priorat where there is a perfect amalgamation of rising hills and vineyards.
Pradell is a town surrounded by farmed land and steep slopes on all sides. It is located in the valley of the “Sierra of Pradell” and the “Mola” of Colldejou.
Pradell is a strting point for many roads of the “GR” long routes which have recently been highlighted and sign-posted. There are plenty of caves and paths to explore within its territory, such as the “Cave of the Rector “, “Petitot´s Cave”, the “Avenc of the Rabassó” , the “Cave of the Quimeres” and the “Cave of the Arbonés”. Some discoveries, of the prehistory era, have been made in the last one.
The landscape is full of hazel and olive trees although the cultivation of vineyards is expanding.
