Villa -
6 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 11
Caprignana, Province of Lucca, Tuscany
I invite you to spend a dream Five Star holiday at my beautiful northern Tuscan property known as ‘I Cinghiali’ or ‘The Wild Boars’ in the hills of the Garfagnana, a magical green oasis where the pace of life has changed little over the ages.

No famous artworks, just wonderful villages full of local people going about their daily business in the marketplaces.

No Michelin logos, but the most unbelievable food prepared by Slow Food chefs and the woman of the house where you enjoy the specialty of the day without the need for a printed menu.

Yes, there are supermarkets, but the produce found in the small specialty shops reminds you how good food tasted when you were young. Cheese is made in the next village; the prosciutto in my village shop is the best on the planet and you can buy fresh and delicious unpasteurised milk from a vending ma...

Interaction with guests
You will be met by my charming neighbour, Anna, a former schoolteacher at the local school who was part of the family from whom I purchased the property in 1988. She will help you with any information or help you require during your stay. If you're there in the summer months it is likely that I, the owner, may be in the villa and if so I will look forward to meeting you and sharing some home grown produce from my garden with you.

What a perfect way to top my European travels! A week relaxing by the pool and nightly visits to various villages as they celebrated their towns and gathered for a meal, dancing and local flavor. Shopping in nearby Castlenuovo was a success! Topped with espresso on the piazza. Then on to a magnificent 4 four course luncheon in the village...

About the neighbourhood
Caprignana is a small village where life matters. Only about 60 inhabitants, they look after each other and a sense of real community often missing in current lives, is still present. In the next village you can visit an amazing family run cheese factory. Down the road there is an adventure park where you can swing in the trees doing a ropes course. Everywhere there are daily village markets for your food, wonderful wine shops where you can buy a five litre pack of delicious red or white for a song, and the baker in the next town has the best bread on the planet. Everything is local and everything is fresh. You buy in season and eat the best of what is available. You will be directed to wonderful inexpensive restaurants where you will wonde
Getting around
You'll have your own car and a map or sat nav and you'll receive a list of all the wonderful things to do in the area. The local railway station is Piazza al Serchio, just down the hill from the house, in the next town, if you have visitors coming in by train. You can also use a train to go to Lucca for the day, or Florence or the Cinque Terre. Italian rail is incredibly cheap.

How to get there

Railway: Piazza al Serchio: 3.0 km
Full directions will be given to you in the 100+ page information booklet you will receive when you make your final payment.

Caprignana is in the Serchio Valley between Lucca and Aulla, near La Spezia. There is no motorway but a good road through the valley. If you are in Lucca you come north, if you are in Aulla you come south: about the same distance from both.

If you are coming from Pisa airport where you have hired a car, then its an easy drive to Lucca and up the valley. If you are coming from Milano, its about 3 hours door to door. If you are coming from Florence, drive to Lucca and then into the valley from there.
