What an amazing find
What a shock when only 20km from our overnight accommodation in Aliwal North, to find that the N6 had been washed away and we had to make a very big detour on our way to Port Elizabeth from Johannesburg. With night time fast approaching we desperately started searching for accommodation close to us. When one of the fully booked lodges recommended a few places, we were blessed when we phoned the number on the billboard for the Old watchmakers Guest house, as you enter Bethulie. We were received with a very welcoming Wendy on the phone who said that she could assist with accommodation for the evening. She welcomed us in the street and settled us into our beautiful room before recommending a place for supper for the evening. (she reports to be able to assist with lamp chops and vegetable suppers for pre-bookings - looking forward to that on our next visit). Breakfast was amazing - muesli, fruit salad and yogurt to start followed by eggs, bacon, tomato relish, cocktail sausages, toast and a mini croissant - and the world's best coffee.
Wendy even went beyond the call of duty by rinsing down our muddy trailer after our detour.
I can definitely recommended this place and the rate is very favourable too.
