------------------------------
Claysun House has recently been completely renovated (2019) and offers a spacious and luxurious holiday home in the heart of the Forest of Dean. Originally a small two up-two down farmers cottage, it has served as a family home and then a village shop. It then laid empty for over 15 years when Lady Bathurst discovered it and it has now been brought back to life.
It covers three floors - at the top it has three spacious bedrooms, all en-suite and with gorgeous views. The middle floor has a further ground floor bedroom, again en-suite (particularly suitable for those who are perhaps a little less mobile), a large hall and a drawing room with a log burner, and across the open plan there is a gorgeously large seating area with a large leather sofa and television.
Downstairs is the piece-de-resistance... The kitchen and conservatory - absolutely huge - light - airy - spacious - welcoming - and the place the family will enjoy congregating for practically everything, including some fierce Foosball competitions!
The kitchen is very well equipped - the dining room area is also on the ground floor and the conservatory with plenty of seating, overlooks the sunken terrace and the forest beyond.
Tucked away at the back of this basement floor lies another TV 'den' - with deep sofas - cushions, beanbags and blankets, the perfect place for the kids to snuggle down and watch some TV after a fabulous day outdoors, while Mum cooks supper in the kitchen beyond. Behind the kitchen is the utility room where there is an extra freezer and washing facilities and a downstairs loo. There is even a luxurious dog bed for the visiting pooches!
The garden is just the right size, with the stunning backdrop of the countryside you can sit outside in the sunshine (the house faces south and has uninterrupted sun all day),or simply lean over the fence and watch the River Lyd as it flows gently past the bottom of the garden. Spot the trout whizzing past - a kingfisher - the odd visiting duck and the water voles as they run along the opposite bank. The fields on the other side of the river are beautiful meadows and the cows will often wander over to say hello, at a safe distance!
The vintage steam railway is a stones throw and during the summer and autumn you can watch it chug past with all the nostalgia the sight of a steam train brings.
The Miners Arms pub, serving traditional ales, ciders and delicious food is literally a stones throw from the house one side and the other side there is a fabulous fish and chip establishment that doubles as a Chinese Takeaway.
Less than a mile away you will be able to hire bicycles on which to explore the countryside, and the plethora of outdoor activities in the area are all incredibly close.
So, whether you are looking for an adventure holiday, or just some peace and quiet, Claysun House is the ultimate destination offering luxury and all the mod cons, as well as style and comfort.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.

The house was lovely, and very clean and comfortable. Could have had egg cups and more chopping boards.
However, the neighbours told us that the dogs were not allowed on the garden. As it was listed as dog friendly, this didn’t seem right.
Whenever they were in their garden, they watched the dogs and tutted if they went on the garden. This made our stay stressful, and this was not in the information. Maybe it should not be listed as dog friendly

An Excellent stay
We had a family gathering at Claysun House and, at no point were we left disappointed. Superb property boasting every appliance you could think of or need.
As our break included Christmas Day, we asked about decorations - we were informed that the house was "decked out". It was! thoroughly! We had three infants with the group and 1 small dog - all of them had been left a stocking with gifts and a treat for the dog; a beautiful and very thoughtful hamper was left for the adults (thank you).
Our Christmas gathering was important to us; but, Claysun House made it exceptional and even more memorable! Thank you Lady B and Ginny, we were not left wanting for anything!!!
See you again xx

Mrs
Claysun House is perfect for enjoying everything in the area! The house is fabulously decorated and super cosy and comfortable and easily big enough to lose 8 people and a couple of dogs in! The kitchen is the star of the show, like something from an interiors mag opening on to a lovely sunny garden with an amazing view. The pub’s literally 100yrds away with fab food and very friendly. The kids loved hiring bikes and the steam train was a real highlight. This is by far the best holiday cottage we’ve rented and everything was so smooth and everyone so helpful. The only thing missing was the gin. (Which we bought!). We’ll definitely be back.
