Enjoy dining on the perfectly set cobbled terrace overlooking the pool lit at night, or sit in the early evening and see magnificent river sunsets piercing the "cinq arches" of the impressive Couze bridge, with the superb nightly illumination of the Chateau Mont-d'Onel above. With rustic, character extending to exposed beams, local stone walls and cool, tiled floors, Cinq Arches has been carefully arranged over 3 floors with extended family and friends' groups in mind. It has four good-sized bedrooms (all ensuite) 3 looking directly over the river; one on the ground floor for easy access and a great, secluded space for parents/grandparents. All bedrooms equipped with cooling, colonial ceiling fans for comfort and the top floor master bedroom has a separate air conditioning unit. The bright, well-equipped, granite-topped kitchen has a range cooker and all modern appliances, including an american fridge/freezer dispensing cold filtered water and ice. Off the kitchen is a small balcony giving a wonderful promontory to breakfast on and watch the early, misty river waking-up, or to just sit later in the day and watch the abundant bank-side bird life and see the occasional boat go lazily by. A large open plan sitting/dining area leads off the kitchen with a huge, extendable table that comfortably seats 12 for more formal dining, and a lovely stone basement that can be used as a cool play area for small children, or to just sit and relax in over looking the pool, out of the midday sun. The front garden has a lawn play area and a tile-roofed loggia to provide a quiet retreat from the activities of the pool at the rear. The house provides a variety of different areas for sunbathing, and some quiet, secluded spaces and corners for reading or snoozing: all provided with comfortable outdoor garden and pool furniture, generously dotted around, allowing Guests to sit out relax, eat and talk in comfort. The small hamlet of Port de Couze, on the bridge, has a boulangerie, cafe bistro "sur le pont", a local produce delicatessen, mini market and a couple of good restaurants on the river, all just 150 meters away from the house. Located on the outskirts of the lovely Bastide town of Lalinde (2.5km), with its popular, colourful market (Thursday), the house is a short cycle ride or 25 mins walk along the beautiful tree-lined old canal to Lalinde, for lovely market square & medieval remnant walls. The highlight of any visit to the Dordogne for children and adults /is a lazy day on the river drifting downstream in a canoe/kayak, past breathtaking chateaux and troglodyte villages scenery hewn deep into the river's stone escarpment banks, and with coaches to bring you gently back afterwards. Local cycle hire available and there is a dedicated cycle path (piste) all along the Dordogne to the old wine town of Bergerac, with its medieval quarter, restaurants/bars and wine tasting overlooking the river. Maison Cinq Arches is a much loved retreat in the middle of an historic area, with a beautiful river back-drop, with its position focused on the river and its associated local life, offering something for all ages. If your plans are to visit and explore the area in an even larger group (20+), Cinq Arches can be connected with the neighbouring property, Maison Ballard, (see Tripadvisor) by opening the large, double garden gates on the river side to create a truly magnificent through garden/river vista venue with 2 pools, front and rear. Price reductions considered for smaller groups in less busy periods. Prices on application for larger groups in combined house option - Maisons Cinq Arches + Maison Ballard.

Perfect family accommodation with magnificent views.
A beautiful home with stunning views of the Dordogne. The bedrooms were immaculate and the reception areas, both inside and outside, were ideal for our party of 8. The pool kept our children entertained throughout the week; the poolside sun-loungers and raised terrace area provided a great view of the pool allowing us to relax as we watched the children swim. Our hosts were very responsive to emails and messages and quick to resolve our queries. The house is a perfect base to explore Couze en Port on foot - don’t miss the night market when the village comes alive with food stalls, lively band music and even livelier dancing! There are several supermarkets in the vicinity and the nearby town, Lalinde, offers a good selection of restaurants and a fabulous market. It’s also a great location for exploring other villages and towns along the Dordogne and is only half an hour from Bergerac. There are several locations offering kayaking and other water based activities just a short drive away. All in all, an excellent house for a large party.

Fabulous villa in the heart of the Dordogne
Maison Cinq Arches is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for comfortable accommodation in the heart of the Dordogne – with a private pool! We rented this amazing villa in July 2018. I’ll start by saying the villa exceeded our expectations. We were vacationing with another family, a total party of 8 people, and the villa was the perfect choice. The villa has a comfortable, elegant and welcoming interior – having been recently renovated – with plenty of room both inside and out. The view from the main terrace overlooking the Dordogne river was lovely, especially in the evening, and the heated saltwater swimming pool was a real hit with the kids! Working with the owners couldn’t have been easier. They were always responsive on email, responding to questions beyond the villa rental to local recommendations for activities, e.g. canoeing on the Dordogne. Their customer service was exceptional, and made sure that our stay at the villa exceeded our expectations from beginning to end. We would definitely rent this villa again if we were to go back to the Dordogne - a lovely part of France!
