Chateaudouble, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur
Bastide les Vallas is a lovely, traditional Provencal house in the heart of Provence, just outside the medieval hilltop village of Chateaudouble in the unspoilt Haut Var. It has been recently furnished and decorated in keeping with the traditional style and enjoys superb panoramic views over the gorge. Set in 3/4 acre of land it has grassed terraces of apricot and olive trees with its own private pool. It is well placed for visiting the charming local villages, Tourtour, Barjemon and Seillans are just a few and the beaches along the south coast, as well as the mountains and golf courses. It is also on the cycle ways of the area encompassing 15 circuits. There are 2 restaurants in the village, one of them being the highly acclaimed 'au chateau' gastronomic restaurant, there is also a bar, village shop, post office and boulangerie.... Read more

La Maison Lavande has absolutely everything you could wish for in a perfect holiday and more!

The property itself is sat amongst the most breathtaking views that no photograph can represent!

The properly is beautifully decorated, with absolutely every item you could need or want for and more. Even down to a potty which enabled a breakthrough for us whilst there with our previously resistant 2 year old! Plus highchairs/cots/stair gates- even a Maclaren buggy to save you having to drag your own through the airport!

The pool is more than inviting, heated to the perfect temperature.

The bonuses of a wealth of games, DVDs and books kept the whole family entertained when a little bit of shade time was needed at the peak of the day.

I can not praise the owners and staff that maintain the property enough. Our only regret is that we hadn't booked two weeks rather than one!

Definitely make sure you book at meal at La Tour in walking...

Reviewed 21 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We went as a family group, six adults, an 8yo and a toddler. We were delighted with the house and its setting overlooking the Gorge of Chateaudouble. The house was very well equipped and suited all our needs. We had arranged for the pool to be heated and it was just as well because my Granddaughter spent every waking minute in it!
There was plenty of room to spread out while we were there and we had many family meals in the dining room or outside at the big table, enjoying the view.
La Maison Lavande is ideally situated for exploring the many pretty villages in the Var. A visit to the Lac Sainte Croix and a further drive to see the lavender fields is to be recommended. The two can be done in a day.
The only downside is that we booked la Maison Lavande for a week and we wish it had been longer. We were very sad to leave, but hope to be back in the future.
Thank you, Jaqui, for making us so welcome on arrival. And thank you Philippa for the use of your lovely home.

About the neighbourhood
Chateaudouble, a real eagle's nest teetering on the top of a cliff (130 metres high). This name which actually means 'double castle' comes from the fact that there are two castles here. One is at the top of the village, the other on the banks of the river Nartuby. Chateaudouble is a gem of Provence encased in greenery. To nature lovers it offers magnificent walks:- The canyons of Chateaudouble, The prehistoric caves, The Hamlet of Rebouillon, a green island bordered by the Nartuby on one side and the canal of the Reine Jeanne on the other. The village itself has a couple of restaurants, shop, historic chapel and shady terrace cafe with magnificent views over the gorge. Drive a little further and visit the Gorges de Verdon and the Lac Ste Croix, or in less than an hour you can b... more
