Netherway Farmhouse is a 17th century thatched cottage, one of 25 listed buildings in the conservation area of Okeford Fitzpaine, one of Dorset’s most attractive villages exhibiting rural charm and relaxed pace. The cottage is available for weekly bookings. Please note that our changeover day is a Friday. Netherway Farmhouse was refurbished in 2018. In keeping with its character, a new kitchen was installed with new appliances and exposing the original stonework. The original pantry was reinstated and a new utility room created with a downstairs toilet. Upstairs there is a new bathroom suite with separate bath and shower. There is a 4th bedroom with ensuite in the third storey which can be made available upon request in order to sleep up to 8 people. This has been a fascinating exercise for us and it has revealed more of the history of the cottage: For example when taking out the built in cupboard in the lounge we revealed not only the original stonework and the original oak window - but a newspaper dated March 1950, headline 'Iron Curtain Descends Across Europe'. The last time this window was seen or touched! The refurbishment will preserve the same homely feel the the farmhouse but give our guests more comfort and facilities. 10 good reasons to stay at Netherway: 1. Spend your holiday or break in what we believe is the best village in Dorset! The cottage is in the conservation area of this beautiful village. 2. The cottage is in the heart of the Blackmore Vale with amazing walks direct from the cottage, views and activities (see location info below). 3. Okeford Fitzpaine is in striking distance from the coast; the Jurassic region around Weymouth and the sandy beaches Poole are roughly equidistant and under an hour. To the north Stourhead , Salisbury and Sherborne are conveniently situated. 4. Relax in the comfortable oak beamed lounge, with preserved features and with modern comforts, broadband, and Smart TV. 5. The Royal Oak pub is only a few doors down; a really good traditional pub serving Sunday lunches and meals most nights. You will receive a friendly welcome here. 6. Enjoy a perfect nights sleep in Netherway’s bedrooms, each with its own character and charm. Lower Street is quiet and peaceful, and a popular thoroughfare for cyclists and horse riders. 7. Children can play in the secluded garden. A croquet set and some other games are available. Younger children can enjoy the recreation ground opposite. 8. There are many outdoor activities near the cottage: The village is on the Dorset cycle route and also near the cycle trail. For the more adventurous there are mountain biking trails and hang gliding off Bell Hill a mile away. 9. Many of our guests have visited the local riding stables where you can learn to horse ride from scratch, whatever your age or go hacking in the countryside. There is even an indoor learning area. Highly recommended. 10. At the end of a long day enjoy the lack of ambient light by watching the stars on a cloudless night from the patio, or listening for owls in the nearby wood. (We find this also a good excuse for a nightcap!). The cottage in detail: Spacious living room carpeted with inglenook, fireplace and original beams . Smart TV with freeview and a flame- effect fire. Kitchen with new range-style cooker with induction hob, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and all the utensils you will need. Dining room is very characterful with stone built walls, an old fireplace and a lovely large handmade oak dining table seating 6 people. Garden room overlooking the garden and patio. Downstairs toilet/basin and utility room with washing machine, tumble drier, iron. Upstairs: Bedrooms are all newly refurbished. Bedroom one-King size bed, windows to the front and rear and a dressing area Bedroom 2 , King size bed, original oak floors. When the cottage was renovated a stunning original wall was discovered - together with an original fireplace. Bedroom 3 with 2 single beds. Towels and linen provided. (Please bring beach-towels if required) There is a family bathroom off the landing with bath and separate shower. Driveway parking for one or two cars. More
