Vista Verde Retreat Center is a rural vacation rental in the high desert forest of northern New Mexico. This beautiful compound is tucked away among old juniper and piñon pines. If you like being in nature, but prefer not to rough it too much, this place is for you. The property itself is on 45 acres, with 3 hiking loops in the natural surroundings. A sense of serenity is pervasive as you wind your way through the compound. You will notice the retreat is designed for you to deepen your connection with the land and allow the tensions from daily life to dissolve.

A Perfect Sunny Retreat
What a fabulous place! We stayed in "The Q." Spacious, warm, lovingly decorated with original artworks by the owner. We meditated in the sunny atrium, then ventured out on the grounds to follow the trails on the property. Mountain vistas and pinyon forests.
The house itself was perfect. We were there in October. The sun warmed the house during the day; at night, the radiant heat in the floors kept our toes toasty. Perfectly appointed kitchen, very comfortable accommodations.

About the neighbourhood
The town of Carson, NM, (village is more like it), consists of about 150 residents, a general store, a post office, and a fire department. The three miles of dirt roads to the retreat are passable year-round and give the feeling that you are out there. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the snow and in the springtime mud. Although television is non-existent and cell service is sketchy, there is WiFi at the Main House If you like some off-site adventure, Taos is 40 minutes away, and Santa Fe is about an hour and a half. The Ski Valley is one hour door-to-door, and Ojo Caliente Spa and Mineral Springs are within a 25 minutes. You can visit ancient Indian cliff dwellings, hike in the mountains or on the mesa, and river-raft in the Rio Grande Gorge. We also can recommend guided hikes, trips to natural hot springs along the river, yoga classes on site, even some good local entertainment.

The roads are passable year-round, but a 4WD or AWD is highly recommended in winter snow and spring mud.

Use Google Maps: 5 North Road, Carson, NM 87517. Once here, turn down the driveway at the Vista Verde Retreat sign, and park in the clearing on the left between the Main House and the Studio.
