Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Home in the heart of France
Three dear friends having a reunion while travelling to France, and we found the perfect private place to retreat in comfort and unique charm. We travelled far from the usual paths to experience a real French vacation in a real French farmhouse, lovingly re-done by our hosts, Kevin and Judith, who live in a separate house on the property. So very convenient! Our hosts, Kevin and Judith, provided all the help we needed to find amazing treasures, including: the largest cave in Europe 20 minutes from the house, providing a day trip of intrigue and stunning beauty. (The more well-known caves are just an hour further, and Kevin can help get tickets to avoid crowded lines.) We had a tour of historical sites of the Resistance, just the inspiration needed to face the problems back at home. And a day trip tour of beautiful towns, the best places for lunch, and a stop at a renowned truffle shop. Judith and Kevin know all the secrets that took our sightseeing to a level we would never have discovered on our own. Then there is the farmhouse, lovingly restored and designed and crafted by Judith and Kevin, who have created all the modern comforts anyone could want, all within a true French country house. The house provides a sanctuary for friends to reconnect, surrounded by a beautiful garden, and with the inviting pool (non-chlorine, hooray!). We had to save one day of our visit just to try the pool and lounge on the patio, ending our perfect day dining on the patio. We were sad to leave, and hope to return someday! This was truly a beautiful place that made our special reunion all the more special. If you want a real French experience, yet appreciate the comfort and help of English-speaking hosts, you will find Kevin and Judith's Dordgone Farmhouse in La Chauvarie the ideal vacation home.

Well, great thanks to you for a super review and also for being great guests. You left our ‘home’ beautifully; you were inquisitive, interested and enlightened guests who really appreciated what our little part of the world has to offer. We enjoyed your company and stimulating conversations about your trip and America and especially sharing the interesting politics of our separate countries. One day we will visit America again and see you there but if ever you do choose to revisit then contact us in plenty of time and we will certainly welcome you and look forward to continuing our discussions about the way forward for our prospective ‘leaders’! Meanwhile we both wish you well over this summer and the fall. Keep in touch, it’s good to talk! Judith and Kevin

Beautiful rural retreat with everything you could wish for
Our third year in a row here which I think says it all! A lovely house, very well set up in a beautiful location with lots to do on the doorstep. Every time we have loved our stay and have already booked for the next two years to ensure we don't miss out as it's so popular - for a very good reason! Jude and Kevin could not be more helpful both before and during the stay. Would totally recommend.

Thank you Louise and family, we have always enjoyed you and your family staying. The children were delightful as usual. We delight in hearing the squeals of children when playing in the pool. Sorry you had to suffer the ‘canicule’ this year but it will have promoted the tan! Great to meet your family of friends whom we hope to see again in the future. Meanwhile enjoy the rest of summer and we will see you next year!

Fantastic
Beautiful Farmhouse in a tranquil location. Plenty to see within 40 minute drive. We spent half our time enjoying the excellent pool and relaxing. The owners made us so welcome we did not want to leave. This was our third visit and will definitely be booking for next year.

Hi Jan, many thanks for your review. Much appreciated indeed. Once again we enjoyed meeting you and yours but this time was especially a treat with baby Heidi. We loved baby-sitting Heidi and look forward to doing it in the future if she remains as obligingly good! Hope you enjoyed your onward holiday and that the sun is shining in the U.K. you were indeed very lucky to miss the unbearably hot week we had recently where we all remained indoors to stay safe from 43+ temperatures! Love to all, see you in the future we hope.

Tranquil and beautiful home from home
This place is so very peaceful, yet near lots of great places to visit. An extended family group, we had plenty of space to chill or chat as we wanted to. The owner was kind enough to lend us art supplies, and we had a terrific afternoon on the terrace painting flowers from the garden. Guidance on where to visit was welcome, as was suggestions for routes from airport. Can’t wait to return again, and explore yet more of the area!

Absolute bliss
Having travelled throughout France (and other countries), it was fabulous to find someone that ticked all our boxes. The farmhouse itself is gorgeous. Very secluded and relaxed. We had the run of the house with its own private pool. No getting up early to bag a good chair or competing with other families. We were able to cook what we wanted, when we wanted. When we wanted to go out to a local restaurant, Judy and Kevin were able to recommend somewhere great. Although the house itself is very rural, it's within an hour of some really great sites. Both hosts have an encyclopedic knowledge of the area and can give some great tips and recommendations. I would hugely recommend this house, especially to families who just need to relax. Nothing is too much trouble and they are lovely hosts. Thank you so much for a magical stay.

Thank you Nicky. We are delighted you enjoy the house and environs. We enjoy having extended families and friends as the place has plenty of space to spread out and about. You are certainly correct about the hosts of beautiful villages, history and culture in our doorstep. We hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday and to see you and your group in the future.

Wonderful place for a holiday
I stayed here for a week and was absolutely blown away by the accommodation, facilities and the local area. The hosts, Kevin and Judith were extremely welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. The house is absolutely stunning and has been been very tastefully converted whilst retaining the ambience of a French farmhouse. The local towns are delightful and well worth visiting, in particular, Rocamadour. I would highly recommend this venue for a tremendous family holiday.

You are correct, there are so many lovely villages and you need more than a week here. We would of course welcome you back at anytime. Enjoy the Scottish weather now! Jude and Kev

Simply the best!
We really needed a peaceful and attractive property to spend our holiday to Chill out Well, we could not have found a more perfect place. The farmhouse lacked for nothing. The beds were the most comfortable we have encountered The swimming pool was heated to a very comfortable 27 degrees and the poolside furniture perfect for relaxing. The area has many attractive bastide villages with good restaurants and facilities for children including canoe trips, river swimming and beaches on the Dordogne and Vezere. Finally, what makes a holiday of this kind are the hosts to whom you can turn with any problems which may occur. Kevin and Judith were always available but never intrusive . We all felt as if we were welcomed as they would their family. We have already decided to return as after 12 days we felt that we had only just scratched the surface of the many attractions still to be visited

Thank you Keith for a great review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and we particularly enjoyed reading that we welcomed you as family as that is how we like it to be. From having holidays with our children and with friends, we recognise how important it is and how much effort goes into trying to ensure you have covered everything and we just like to take some of that pressure off if we can help in any way. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the area and recognise there is still more to see. It is quite an undiscovered part of France which makes it all the more attractive. We look forward to welcoming you again. Thankyou for leaving the property so well. Regards, Judith and Kevin

Beautiful retreat
This was our sixth visit to La Chauvarie. We feel we can truly relax here in the beautiful house and gardens. The house is exceptionally well equipped with lots of space for guests to spread out. The pool area is beautiful with areas to sunbathe or to stay in shade. If you enjoy bird watching then there are many species to be seen. We enjoy listening to the green woodpecker in the walnut trees that surround the property. It's a great area for cycling and canoeing for the more active members of the family. Local markets are a must and there are supermarkets a short drive away. Judith and Kevin are knowledgeable hosts but manage to remain unobstrusive. We will be returning next year to introduce another generation of our family to the delights of La Chauvarie.

Great Stay
Our second stay here, we were two families, one of 5, one of 4, each having our own floor which was perfect. Very helpful hosts who just let us get on with it, but were there for advise if we needed it. The farmhouse was just like a home from home, well equipped kitchen, good wifi and even UK tv! The pool was perfect, it even had a bar to store some beers in! If you are a runner, there is a secret and very tough Strava segment 2 mins down the road!

Thanks Martin. You’ll have to tell us about this run! Not that I’ll be doing it. Glad you enjoyed your stay and really pleased that we had you and the family as return visitors. It was lovely to hear the children enjoying themselves and great that you managed to see the immediate area on bikes and with running shoes. Thankyou for leaving the place intact and we would welcome you back at any time. Enjoy the Autumn in the U.K. only 17 Friday’s till Christmas!

Beautiful house in lovely rural setting. Perfect!
This was our second time here and again, it certainly did not disappoint. In fact, we have now booked ahead for the next two years to ensure we don't miss out as it is so popular! The house feels like a home from home and has plenty of space, good sized rooms and comfortable beds. The outside area is excellent too with a beautiful pool area which our two small children loved. The area itself has lots of interesting places to visit and activities too so you have the choice of a nice quiet day by the pool or plenty of options to explore if you decide to venture out. The owners could not have been more helpful and are utterly delightful. It really could not have been any better. A gem of a place that we could not recommend highly enough.

Thank you for your kind review. Thank you too for leaving the place so well. It was a delight to welcome you back and it will be equally delightful to see the children grow up even more in 2019 and 2020. They are gorgeous and confident and fun loving and we enjoyed their company in passing and their excited noises coming from the pool. We welcome you and your family and friends back anytime.
