We'd love to help you plan your trip to Highlands, NC! Miss Rebecca's Cottage is in one of the best in-town locations on a beautiful 2/3 acre property secluded right next to Sunset Rock Hiking Trail, Highlands Nature Center, and a one-third mile walk to the center of town. There you'll find boutique shopping, fine dining, art galleries, live music, live theater, & movies. Once an ice house (for blocks of ice from Harris Lake), then a caretaker's house and later, an artist's studio, the property was part of Harvilla, the estate of Miss Rebecca Harris, built in the early 1900's .The beautiful main house still stands next door, and lush grounds seclude the cottage from the quiet street. The main part of the house has been opened into a great room with a wood-burning stone fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, and a comfortable seating area with lots of windows. Two bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has two twin beds, and there are two bathrooms. Furnishings and accessories have been specially selected and maintained with care. Enjoy TV/DVD, Wi-Fi, telephone, washer/dryer, CD player, radio, puzzles, games, books, and magazines. With a total square footage of 1300 feet, Miss Rebecca's Cottage is cozy but open and suitable for either a family of six or equally appealing for a couple wanting a private, special occasion getaway. If additional bedrooms are needed, rooms may be taken at the owner's bed and breakfast, Colonial Pines Inn, half a mile away where there is also a separate, smaller cottage suitable for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 small children. If Miss Rebecca's calendar is full, please inquire about availability at these other locations. Highlands, at an elevation of 4118', offers a cool summer climate with an average high in July of 77 degrees and an average low of 57. In summer, there are many cultural offerings including theater, music, and outdoor events from which to choose. The fall colors of Leaf Season bring excitement and crowds, especially on weekends; but the quiet evergreen beauty of winter and the gentle unfolding of spring offer a time to enjoy Highlands at a slower pace. Shops and restaurants are open year round and there is a winter/spring theater season as well as summer. Check into activities year-round at The Bascom, The Nature Center, The Highlands Cashiers Players, The Highlands Playhouse, Friday Night Live, The Chili Cook-Off (to name a few). There is no better place to experience the beauty and mystery of the mountains in any season, and there is no house in Highlands more personal, charming, and well located than Miss Rebecca's Cottage. Contact us with the number of children/adults in your group, arrival date, length of stay, and any other needs you may have. We'll respond with a personal quote just for you! Please also check out our smaller cottage, the 2-Bedroom Guest House at Colonial Pines Inn (FlipKey #400430), adjacent to our B&B, Colonial Pines Inn. The Inn and Guest House are located in-town on Hickory Street on a beautiful secluded hillside with a view of Satulah Mountain, about half a mile from the center of town. My mother, daughter & I rented this cottage and loved it. It was more than we expected, both in the quality of furnishings, the open easy spaces, and the location, close to the sunset rock hike (we went three times!), close to the botanical garden...More

About the neighbourhood
Miss Rebecca's is located on the Highlands Greenways Trail, which is five miles of walking trails that go all over town from Sunset Rock to The Bascom Arts Center. The neighborhood is secluded just outside the business district and one-third mile away is Mountain Fresh Grocery where you'll find a deli, a coffee shop, a bakery, 'Italian Street Food,' an olive oil shop, carry-out family meals, and oh yes - groceries! It's probably the most popular place in town along with the Ugly Dog Pub, for delicious casual meals. Of course, fine diining restaurants abound in Highlands, and you'd want to try Wolfgang's, Paoletti's, Lakeside, and Wild Thyme, all of which are in walking distance. Don't miss Sunset Rock (trail begins right out your front door) for a beautiful view of Highlands nestled in t...
Getting around
A car is necessary to visit some hiking areas and waterfalls but around town, walking is highly recommended. Town limits are 1.5 X 1.5 miles so everything is easily accessible.
