Fun family stay!
Absolutely wonderful stayed. We had two families, a total of 5 adults and 4 children aged 4-9 years. The lodge was more than adequate for all of us to stay in and feel we had plenty of room. The two couples used the two master suites with jacuzzi and heated floors on the main floor. The kids were all happy sharing the bunk and wagon beds on the bottom floor. I was happy to see that although the bottom floor had only one bathroom, it did not connect to either bedroom directly, so the 5th adult was able to stay in their own room and use the bathroom without being bothered by the children. The kids loved the chess pieces and football table. We played billiards. We loved the hot tub, and all issues were quickly addressed by Cheryl (like how to find the light around the hot tub). The kids really enjoyed the playground too where they were able to see horses and alpaca roaming safely on the other side of the fence. We fed the animals on a rainy day, went skiing and snowboarding on cataloochee on a sunny day, and we did a mini-horse ride on the last day of our stay. There was also an opportunity for the kids to be a “ranch hand” and feed the animals! Note all these required additional fees and booking though. Great stay overall. Cons were spotty wi-fi and a treacherous road (but worth it for The view)

Tatonka Lodge exceeded our expectations
We enjoyed our stay the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our family gathered to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner there. Everything was so well thought out as far as making sure anything that you could possibly need was already there. The property itself and all of the farm and animals was quite impressive. If you're planning on cooking, bring some extra trash bags because we went through those pretty quickly. The driveway to the cabin was a little daunting for some but what would you expect if you want to be perched up on the highest mountain peak? Wonderful time..,.wonderful experience ....,.wonderful cabin.

The Perfect Retreat
Nestled high in the mountains of North Carolina and in close proximity to everything you need, Tatonka Lodge fit our purpose to a tee. The lodge is beyond beautiful and accommodating for families or large groups. So much fun on the property that a person would be entertained for days without leaving! The vibe from the animals to the mountain air are not to be missed. There was nothing about the space and location that were not perfect. Communication from the hosts was consistently excellent. Great job!

Gorgeous hilltop cabin set within a working bison ranch!
This year our family vacation took this Florida family of 10, ranging in age from 15months to 71years old, to NC mountains. Living in Orlando, my grandkids have been to every amusement park and this vacation was a back to nature one! Tatonka Lodge was perfect. Our mornings were spent hiking down from the cabin to watch the bison being fed, visit the Llamas, goats, bunnies, ponies, and feed the goats! Pony rides and donkey feeding were hits with the kids. What a special place Buffalo Creek Vacations is! Tatonka Lodge accommodated our family perfectly. We had everything we needed to cook dinners- plenty of pots, pans, baking dishes and utensils. The playroom with pool table, air hockey, fuss-ball was so fun after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. But the best part was the hot tub at the end of the day. Soothed our sore muscles. Cheryl always got back to me if I had questions, concerns, and set up our activities on the ranch. As others have noted, the drive up to the cabin Is steep and initially intimidating but my SUV without AWD made it up just fine. It is paved and not gravel so that is helpful and I got used to it quickly. We made such wonderful family memories here this week!

Fantastic!!!
Meant to respond earlier, but have had health problems. We had a wonderful vacation at Buffalo Creek, a buffalo ranch!! Such a unique place! Great for all ages! Tatonka Lodge is beautiful, with appropriate buffalo/mountain decor & great game room, with extra bonus !! Terrific for our group of 5 adults & 3 teens! Don't miss the amazing model train display & feeding the buffalo! Warn that road is narrow (steep at times), but rarely have to pass others on it. No complaints at all, except that the deposit hasn't been credited to me by TripAdvisor yet (I just discovered this. Buffalo Creek is not responsible for giving this credit. Supposed to be automatic when checkout passes and ours was excellent.)

They go the extra mile for their guests
The Owners, Cheryl and Jeff, go the extra mile for their guests on top of having awesome cabins. My family loves the Tatonka cabin, we are return guests there. It was so much fun having three/four households under one roof ages 3 to 73. One night I looked up and took it all in at the game room in the lower level. Everyone was playing something all at the same time (pool, air hockey, foosball, shuttle board) and having a good time. At that moment my heart was warmed. The great news was that snow came, which made to skiing conditions great at Catalooche ski area. The bummer was that the cabin being on a steep driveway was concerning that we wouldn't be able to leave as scheduled based on the snow and ice on the driveway. Well, Jeff snowplowed the driveway at 10:30AM. I asked him to plow it again at 12:00PM and he did. It was a lot of effort to plow twice, but they did without hesitation. Additionally, the night we got there I knew need a lot of ice. Jeff brought us two full bags on top of the full ice tray in the freezer. This was my forth trip to Buffalo Creek Vacations. I'll be back again this Summer and family and friends.

This place is AWESOME!
We have stayed at the smallest of these cabins (The Buffalo Bungalow) three years ago and now have enjoyed the largest (the Tatonka Lodge) as well! It is absolutely a great place to get away as a couple or as a large family reunion or group. I can't recommend them enough. We will definitely be back and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Buffalo Creek vacations to anyone looking for a getaway to the mountains of North Carolina.

Things to Do
There were so many things close by to take advance of. Whitewater rafting, tubing, horseback riding, panning for gems, Indian Reservation, hiking, the Biltmore Estate, Ashville and last but not the least the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Tatonka Lodge had plenty of room and my grandchildren enjoy the bison and all the other animals at the Lodge. They enjoyed playing pool, air hockey and the shuffle board. The evening were great with the fire pit and the hot tub. Guarantee you will not be bored and an absolute great time for our family. My grandchildren requested that we return again next year.

Best Place to Celebrate with Family & Friends!
We decided on Tatonka Lodge for my boyfriend's 30th birthday celebration spot, and this cabin exceeded our expectations! It was stunning, fully equipped and had more things to do inside that we never even left the entire 4 days we were there! It was the perfect spot for our family and friends to meet up and celebrate. Plus, the views were outstanding! Cheryl and her staff were helpful, accommodating and easy to work with no matter what we needed or questions we had. We highly suggest Tatonka for your next getaway!
